Forums - General - We have to find a new planet?

One thing all religions has in common is to enter/ reach toward the heavens. Eternity is written in the human heart.

The thing is, the technology and resources required to colonize other planets is probably a lot greater than what would be required to fix our own problems here and ensure our survival.

Besides, if we go into space, there WILL be Romulans!

PS. Nowhere in the bible does it say people go to heaven when they die, that is an alien myth to Christianity that has become one of its core features, like Christmas, Sunday worship, Easter, and other things. The reason why people think that we should explore space probably stems from this myth that is coded into our culture. I'm agnostic though, I don't buy it.

I hope you are kidding.

When I was a teen in the mid seventies a new ice-age was upon us.  Now in my lifetime global warming is going to kill us.

In between I saw PSA's from Sam Malone telling us we had 10 years to live and that was 20 years ago

What ever

It's all true. Find a passage where Jesus says "If you are good you go to heaven, if you are bad you go to hell." For a belief so core to contemporary Christianity, you would think that somewhere in the books it would be explicitly stated. This is just something added in to give easily fooled people incentive to listen to the Church.

For the rest, Find a passage in the bible where it says Jesus was born on the winter solstice, died on the Spring Equinox, and a passage where he says he moves the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. None of that exists in the bible. They were all Western traditions.
* Sunday was a Roman weekly holiday to celebrate the Imperial Cult (Mithras Sol Invictus).
* Christmas took over the Solstice festivals (it was the same day as the birthday of Mithras Sol Invictus, the  bible says Jesus was born in the Spring. Christmas trees, Santa, Christmas ham, and other traditions are Germanic (For Odin and Freyr)
* Easter tradition was the pagan tradition of the equinox, when the light conquered darkness (when the days finally become longer than the nights). Easter is named after the Goddess Ostara, which is where we get the bunnies and the eggs.

True Christianity?

Read the bible, you'll see the main messages are: don't judge, and to throw off the belief systems you hold so true, because they are holding you back from the greater truth. Jesus is the personification of the Philosophical ideal of the Logos (According to some of the books). He was never meant to be a real person, not until Constantine canonized a few of the books, and burned the rest, and those who did not follow his Nicene system; did that belief become prevalent; it was also in a far more superstitious world. The authors of the bible were wise descendants of thought of the Greek philosophers; such as Aristotle and Philo (a Hellenized Jew). Only, most contemporary Christianity ignores this. Most Christians don't even know who Sophia is (The personification of Wisdom, the mother of God); Hagia Sophia was one of the largest buildings of Christian worship ever built (in Constantinople/Nova Roma, capital of the Christian Roman/Byzantine Empire for over a thousand years).

Actually according to the Bible God created earth as a eternal home for mankind.  It was only after the original sin did God deem it necessary to bring 144.000 from earth to rule in heaven with jesus.

After Armageddon earth will become a paradise again.

According to the bible earth is mans home

This post is so ridiculous and filled with modern myths that I won't waste time to refute it.

You can believe what you want. I know the motives behind it.

I don't get global warming at all.

Someone explain it to me.

If it's true, why did the UK have it's coldest winter in years and why are we currently having a dreadful summer?

As for needing another planet anytime soon. I disagree. We have survived here for long enough and can continue to survive. Don't be having for example, 13 children per family. I'm looking at you, Africa.

Have scientists actually researching things that can help the human race on this planet. Have them researching new, cheaper and quicker ways of transport, new engines that can use, for example, water... As fuel for when our fuel "runs out". New "pills" for food or whatever. Have them researching new cures for diseases. New ways to try tell if a Natural Disaster is going to happen. Ways to make places like Africa as habitable as the UK or the US or wherever.

Don't have scientists researching things that are just... Stupid. Don't have them doing studies on "Do games make people waste time" or whatever.

Sure, by all means research the possibilities of space travel and the possibilities of living on other Planets. It could be great for the human race... But i don't think it's NEEDED.

Space colonization is enivitable, but it won't solve our population problems.  Everyone should watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-QA2rkpBSY it discusses exponential growth and population.  At our current rate we have 50-60 years till we're extremely overpopulated, and if we find a whole new planet and keep our current rate of expansion it will only last for 200 years or so (if it's a planet like mars.)  The long term solution is to control birth rates (as increasing death rates will never be popular) so we need to curb unwanted pregnancies and give people a reason to not give birth, maybe make adoption easier or more appealing (maybe give couples a tax cut), as well as marrying but not producing children.

We also have an oncoming energy emergency if anyone hasn't noticed.  If our population continues at this growth rate for 30 or so years, we'll be out of both coal and oil and we won't have enough energy even if we use all the known copper in the world to make the necessary amount of solar panels to provide energy for everyone.  There is also a growing need for water, there is only so much usable water in the world and people need water to live, if our population grows, that means less water for everyone.  The key to all our growing problems is curbing population growth.   This will increase the quality of life for everyone who is on Earth.

The key of controling population growth is sex. Just live without it. :)  We are doomed.
