I think I will have to wait and see what NPD numbers say before I can be diffenetive on this week and last week. Based on what Sony has said they sold about 230k to 250k the week of black friday, and they also said that at 310k MS had way underestimated 2 to 1 which would have been 155k. If we look back in histroy sales have actually went up for nearly every console the week after Black friday according to this site. With that said I think ioi will be doing some adjusting to the numbers once the year is all said and done. Understand I think ioi does a great job, and I am not only saying this because I beleieve the PS3 numbers are low, as I think we will see the 360 undertracked as well.

PS3 sold 230-250k based on what? You just pulled those numbers out of your ass, all Sony said was that 360 didn't outsell PS3 2:1, but then they refused to give actual numbers.  If they really didn't get outsold somewhere close to 2:1 they would have released numbers, Sony doing nothing shows the truth.

@ damkira ) this week maybe , but the numbers are for last week

UPDATE
johnsobas,
well, I thought it was MS statement,
But if it is CNN, well, it is a bit better.

thx Rath for your post, and yes, statistic is BS, dont worry, I know that, it is why I dont use them.

I also believe NPD numbers will introduce some changes since the Xbox360 was undertracked severals times.

respectable news sources don't put out fake/unreliable numbers.

The PS3 needs 36k from Japan to outsell the 360 this week.

Should reach that number easily.

Libellule,

It was a MS statement, presented by CNN. Like stated before by Rath, companies cannot lie about things that can effect their market value, like sales numbers. Shareholders and potential buyers are protected by law to recieve correct information from the companies.

So when Microsoft says they sold 310.000 X360's that's absolutely the best number available, so ioi is very smart to use this information in his salesnumbers.

As for NPD, it will probably differ a bit here and there, but that's not really a problem to me. I love this site for its convenience and ioi has proven to be very close to the only numbers that really count: numbers in the annual reports of the companies.

"""Because he updated the Wii's numbers when nintendo released their figures for the week. It's called common sense. """

==> "common sense"
lol, another funny man.
if I can understand the fact to try to refer to NPD/Famitsu/Mediacreate to get better estimation (maybe), I dont understand why "we" should believe Microsoft or Nintendo numbers.
It is like believibg Sony numbers, the PS3 would be at 8M in NA alone right now !!!

PS : I didnt know Nintendo was used to release figures for the week.
I suppose this is "common knowledge" ...

It doesn't really matter which company or organization you think is more trustworthy.  You asked why he would update it based on the press release, the answer is that anytime Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo release official sales figures the site is updated accordingly.  In case you haven't noticed over the last year, when the quarterly reports come out the site numbers are adjusted.  Those come directly from the companies.

I wonder if the PS3 will be anywhere around xbox numbers in November NPD, if only Sony had released it's sales figures for black friday we would have more ground to walk on, so to speak. I agree that the almost 100k dropoff for the Wii is primarily because of hardware shortages. Look at the xbox and ps3, the dropoffs were 20-30 k, not around 100k. Will be interesting to see how sales continue on till the end of december for the Wii.

Remember a few weeks ago when the Ps3 "beat" 360 for the week in a similar manner? That got adjusted too and November 10th week is the only one where the PS3 finished ahead after the adjustment. That's 1 out of the last 17 weeks. August 11-November 24

I can only go with the numbers that are there on the front page buddy, they may get changed at a later date, but for now I was just making an observation.
