I loved Okami!   Bought it first week, can't be anymore happy with the game.  It even lets me understand Naruto a bit better and japanese culture in general.

Yeah the game did incorporate some strong cultural themes and it did it quite nicely.

Really?  Never played Okami.  But I did get a better understanding of Japanese culture through Persona 3 and 4.

The reason Okami did not sell well was due to the lack of advertisement, people are more used to a human or humanoid being the protagonist, and the art style

It's a Clover game.  Those never sell well.

Characters that gamers like playing as:

  • Tough white guy
  • Kick ass Asian guy
  • Cool black guy
  • Hot chick with an attitude
  • Aliens
  • Animals with Human characterisitics (like Sonic or Crash bandicoot)
  • Robots
  • Flowers
  • That "L" shaped block from Tetris.
  • Water
  • Carpet
  • Tree Bark
  • Wolves with the celestial paint brushes
  • Alan Wake
  • Everybody knows this.  I don't know how Capcom screwed this up so badly!

    Lol @ water?
But yeah i guess there were alot of things that threw people of initially and the lack of advertisement hurt.

Artistic critically acclaimed games don't mean games that are appealing to a mass market. How much of a population of a city with a good museum regularly goes? it's art. Everyone should appreciate art. I've only been 2 times in my entire life to my local museum.

The merits that a reviewer gives is not the same as those who would play. I played it. I was beautiful, but I just wasn't engaged to continue to play.

So playing a wolf is no more marketable than playing a Scorpion or other insects.

Hey now....Deadly Creatures sold more than Okami on PS2

I personally didn't care for Okami. Capcom should have ported Godhand. That game was the shit dawg!!!

Sure it's a nice game, but it was very difficult... to get started. I nearly threw it out of the window after 15 minutes of intro.
