Forums - General - Why VGChartz isn't considered reliable (article)

Seems like the fire was pretty well put out

But what's up with the GAF guy feeling the need to jump in?

What are you guys doing focussing on the numbers?  Didn't you read the comment that claimed Brett was kicked from Gaf for trading Porn?  Doesn't sound true to me, but still funny as hell.

I want to know more!

I don't consider the software to be more than indicative. However the hardware I trust, especially as the numbers get older. The numbers on the coal face for hardware are the least reliable given the time constraints in producing them and yet they are the most discussed numbers on the site.

Well they give out bans like these:

"You have been banned for the following reason:
vgchartz gets their numbers from a very special space: ioi's ass

Date the ban will be lifted: Never"

So it's kinda porn... xD

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

LOL I thought some of VGChartz bans were stupid.

i like that article! the way he puts it 3D Dot Game heroes *could* have sold 500.000 copies! i like that number.

...i kid, i kid

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I don't like it at all! It means that Fragile's real numbers could be -100k.

That article is extremely weak.

The guy doesnt understand basic maths for one thing... his schoolboy mistake on the 300k as an absolute in error comparisons is embarrassing.

He also doesnt understand tracking, he may aswell try and discredit all sources (NPD etc) because the methodolgy is similar (but different) for all of them.

I dunno. Clearly his math is strong. A game the sells ~200 000 according to VGC, according to 360 discrepencies, really could have sold anywhere between -100 000 and 500 000.

I see no possible error in translating a dicrepency of 300 000 to whichever game/system.

@comments: Banned for trading porn? Too funny. If true, which I'm highly skeptical of, why even bother discerning that information. It's like trying to discredit Michael Jordan's basketball accomplishments by saying he cheated on his wife. Absurdly unneccessary.

How cute. This is like Playboy trying to discredit The Economist. Except I'm pretty sure Hugh Heffner can count.
