One of those was a big release, one was a moderately big release, the other two were flops. On the other hand, look at the list of significant releases the PS3 got this year. It's no mystery.
The really big ones are like Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, NSMBW...

Duh, it's the Wii. Of course it's outselling the PS3... But has it ever been this close to the PS3 on a weekly basis? Close to being outsold in EMEAA, being outsold in Japan and
I just think it's weird that despite a Pricecut and it's biggest system seller... It's down by a LOT YoY.
Is the sole reason for the Wii's YoY drop, a lack of quality software? Who's fault is this lack of quality software on the system?

I don't get why everybody here acts like PS3 has all these amazing games.. It has very few that look interesting to me. Since NSMB Wii, Wii has had No More Heroes 2, Endless Ocean 2, Trauma Team, Mario Galaxy 2, Monster Hunter Tri, Sin and Punishment 2, Red Steel 2, Arc Rise Fantasia. I wouldn't call that "no games." Problem is, most of these games just aren't system sellers. This coupled with the slow summer months account for the relatively stagnant Wii sales. However, DKC Returns, Wii Party, Epic Mickey, Goldeneye, and Kirby DO have the potential to be system sellers, which is why I think Wii sales will ignite again around late September- October when the holiday season starts to get going. |
MNR, HR, ect ect were system sellers?
I think the only prominant PS3 games so far this year that can even be remotely attached to the term "system seller" is GOWIII and FFXIII.

The Wii is lower now, with a $199 price, than the same time last year at $249.
You're right in thinking it's low. Past 360 and PS3 cuts have kept it up YOY before, but for some reason Wii is already down to it's lowest ever sales.
If it doesn't get a price cut this xmas, and with no NSMB ...
I'm amazed Nintendo fans think Nintendo can bring out a game every xmas and it'll reinvigorate sales ...

Because opinions vary. I could say the Wii has a single game that interests me. Twilight Princess. While the PS3 has hundreds of games that interest me. Wouldn't make it a fact though...
And the same could be said of the PS3. It's had a bunch of games, but not that many could be considered system sellers. Bayonetta? Darksiders? MAG? Dante's Inferno? Bioshock 2? SSFF4? Mod Nation?... System sellers?
As for the Wii's system sellers you listed.
DKC Returns, i can see selling some. Yes.
WIi Party. No. There are hundreds of party games on Wii. I can't see one more being a system seller.
Epic Mickey... Possibly.
GoldenEye. I doubt it... Although it could be another one of those nostalgia things.
Kirby... Again, i doubt it. Has Kirby ever been a huge seller? Not too sure on this...

Software is the primary driver for hardware. Wii, as successful as it has been, is not exempt from this rule. The fact is, virtually EVERY 3rd party out there has completely shut out the Wii, thus drying out the software library lately and puting all the pressure on Nintendo to release more, who is currently diverting most of their effort into 3DS.
So to answer your question as to whos fault it is, it is primarilly 3rd parties trying to kill the console with its horrible lack of support, coupled with Nintendo's shifting resources to 3DS hardware and games.
PS3 has had tons of strong releases the first half of this year, coupled with a price drop and slim release, and despite all this, Wii STILL outsells it. So in other words, I don't think Nintendo is very concerned about the Wii at this point.

"It's the Wii" is magical thinking. Do you really not understand that a games console needs regular significant games releases to maintain momentum, and why are you trying to change the subject?

Yeah that's what i don't get... It's strange that it's down.
As for the last bit, i noticed it too but didn't wanna say it. I just don't believe any game they're releasing can do even what half of NSMB Wii did... Let alone adding on the effect that the Pricecut, Wii Sports Resort AND Wii Fit Plus also had.

The only system sellers this year for the ps3 were GOW3 and FF13 (in JP for example)...you're just seeing what you want to see, both consoles had many titles released, soem flopped some didn't some moved sw...the total numbers will be around the same but coming out with hype and flopping is not the competitions fault
For example from the games released for the wii this year so far, wii party, MH and SMG2 can move HW. How much they will move is up in the air really...blaming it on the sw is useless
