Forums - Nintendo - Finding the 3DS at launch

I didn't buy the Nintendo DS at launch - I didn't have any money, and I had to wait until 2 Christmas's after it came out to get one. I understand however, that the DS would have been very difficult to find when it first came out, and this is the base idea around this thread.

Do you think that the 3DS will be harder to find than the DS when it comes out (upon launch comparison for both consoles); if so, how long would it be until someone could go into a shop and buy one without having to worry about shortages?

I made this topic because I didn't buy DS at launch, and I wondered how long I'd have to wait to buy a 3DS if I didn't pre-order.

I live in England btw, if that makes any difference to the availability of the 3DS.

Let's assume the 3DS will sell for $200.

Buy 2 on launch. Sell 1 for $400.

If you preorder it shouldn't be hard to get.

I preordered.

And you know what, i might buy two now. lol

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Thanks

DS was easy to find, either that or i got really lucky. I just walked in to my local GameStop on Black Friday 2004, asked for a DS and Super Mario 64 DS, got 'em, and had them hidden until Christmas

3DS might be more frontloaded, but i still imagine it'll be easier than the Wii was in its early run.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I don't think it will be too hard to get.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Now the Wii was hard to find, it was crazy back then. And i fully expect the 3DS to be that way.

Ill just pre-order mine

I think the 3DS will be sold out just like the Wii was. Maybe not for that long though, since the handheld should be easier and faster to produce copies. But, the DS Lite was way more sold out than the DS Phat wasn't it?
