Sure, this is probably only going to last a week, but there's no way the 360>Wii and PS3 combined was in the cards for anyboy's thinking.  Was PS3 able to do that on Slim's launch...I can't remember.  I'm telling oyu all, the launch of Halo Reach is going to be massive...

The YoY numbers are instructive. The Wii isn't especially weak right now, it's just that the 360 is remarkably strong and the PS3 ain't no slouch either. Since I suspect Nintendo cares more about absolute sales than relative sales (marketshare) I don't expect them to go out of their way to respond. What's more, they need to focus on the 3DS's big debut rather than fret about fighting the Wii's market saturation.

I really didn't expect the 360 redesign to draw this much attention. It just didn't seem as significant as the PS3's last redesign. I guess the 360 crowd gets really eager to buy the latest hardware, even if it doesn't do much more than the old.

360s redesign is much more significant than PS3's redesign. 360s eliminated any last vestiges of reliability concerns, added WiFi N, added the special Kinect port, slimmed things down of course, nice shiny black clour, bigger HDD. 360s is a big improvement over the original design. PS3 slim was just smaller with bigger HDD, the big thing for PS3 was the big price cut.

Yup, if the Slim PS3 launched without a price cut, exactly how well would it have done?

I love how it's so quiet in here once the 360 dominates. :)

People are likely stunned.  Shoot, I am stunned at this also.  What can you comment about this?  I still think it is a bit premature to declare anything at this point.

People are making too much of a fuss about these 360 sales. Sure they are ultra high outselling the PS3/Wii combined but I thought the goal was to bring in new customers. Look at the software charts for when the PS3 Slim came in and compare those to the software that the 360 is producing now. It's all about software and if MS is only selling 360's to consumers who already have an xbox then what is the point? The 360 outsold the the PS3 by 2.5-1, but how many of those were new customers? How many of those bought new games? The answer, very little considering the PS3's software actually outsold the 360's software. The only thing that the 360s is doing is prolonging PS3's venture to 2nd place (if it ever does of course).

If new systems are being traded in, or given to other people, then other people end up with the 360 platform.  It works out longer term to benefit Microsoft.

The Wii had a great run.  Over 70 million consoles in a little over 3 years...How long did people really think it would keep selling at that rate?  There were only so many people who were going to buy a Wii.  The fact it is still selling this well is quite amazing.

With that in mind I never thought I would see the day the 360 would outsell the Wii and PS3 combined.

Nowhere near as well IMO.

The price was just way too much...

They might have even been better off doing the cut last year, and releasing the Slim this year.

At this rate it may take Sony until 2012 to close the gap, by then we'll probably have announcements of the PS4 and XBOX3, so current sales won't be so relevant anymore. MS actually managed to establish itself in the console market after all, after a not so great start with the XBOX. Who'd thought it.

That's why I believe the PS3slim brought new customers to the brand more than the Xbox S which (imo) sells mainly to the current Xbox owners , but MS is bringing the arcade S Kinect soon and that (imo again ) will change the situation

MS strategies are impressive .
