Forums - Nintendo - Shooters on the 3DS may play something like this

I think some people are missing the point here. Yes, the 3DS has real buttons and a real thumbstick, so pay no attention to the virtual thumbstick and fire button.

The point is the merit (or lack thereof) of using a gyroscope as an aiming device in a handheld.

So here's an idea. A lot of people don't actually like using the stylus for an FPS because it makes the DS harder to hold and restricts them to just the L trigger as a button. Suppose you skip the touch screen altogether. Use the L and R triggers for broad left and right turns, and tilt the gyroscope around for precision aiming. This makes the DS more comfortable to hold (and therefore makes tilt-aiming more responsive) and frees up all the face buttons for fire, alt-fire, jumping, etc.

Might be better than stylus, might not. I'd like a chance to try it out.

Is that enuff for an FPS? Becaus I want to be able to play FPS games on the 3DS.

But I could never get used to do it by touching the screen on an iPhone to move and shoot. Stupid.

The rest of my post went on to explain one way you might use them to control an FPS, but you need to use a gyroscope for precise aiming.

Other than that, there are quite a few FPS games on the DS already using the stylus to aim, much like using a mouse. It's not like the iPhone, because the game is displayed on the top screen and the lower screen is used purely for interface. Some people love this scheme, but others (like me) find it a little too awkward. I suggest you try it for yourself before you decide whether stylus works for you or not.

But if my left hand is pressing the thumbstick and my right hand is busy holding the stylus to aim, how do I shoot?

By pressing L-button with your index finger.

Where is the L-button? On the left side of the unit?

Oh boy, yes! it's a shoulder button.

Awful, having to tilt the screeen makes the game look worse and less comfortable. And having to use the thumbs (but any other fingers wouldn't be much better) on a little screen, obstructing the view of a large part of it, makes things even worse. Controlling a FPS with a stylus wouldn't be any better, though, a stylus can be very precise, but except for a few very sharp reflexed gamers, only if used more slowly than at the typical FPS pace.

So up until now it looks like no new control is better than the old ones for FPS, and only WM Plus or PS Move could be as good if properly fit in the game by programmers.

Does not look like it works all that great on the iphone..But i think it would work Great For the 3DS since it has Real Buttons.
