I think some people are missing the point here. Yes, the 3DS has real buttons and a real thumbstick, so pay no attention to the virtual thumbstick and fire button.

The point is the merit (or lack thereof) of using a gyroscope as an aiming device in a handheld.

So here's an idea. A lot of people don't actually like using the stylus for an FPS because it makes the DS harder to hold and restricts them to just the L trigger as a button. Suppose you skip the touch screen altogether. Use the L and R triggers for broad left and right turns, and tilt the gyroscope around for precision aiming. This makes the DS more comfortable to hold (and therefore makes tilt-aiming more responsive) and frees up all the face buttons for fire, alt-fire, jumping, etc.

Might be better than stylus, might not. I'd like a chance to try it out.
