Forums - Nintendo - Give Us Back The Old Nintendo (Nowgamer article)

LordTheNightKnight said:

Sony and Microsoft have introduced many great new IPs, Nintendo hasn't, I made a list earlier and you couldn't counteract with a better one.

It's not about the controller, it's about the game and how the game is compromised with the default controller. People didn't have to purchase extra accessories to play the older games, which made them superior. I also have a N64, so I have no interest in dealing with Nintendos flawed online service until they go out of their way to fix it.

Just because you can find different faults with Nintendo, it doesn't mean that the ones I find are less important than the ones you find.

The thing's I wrote are for more significant than releasing a few PAL games and marketing a single franchise, the Phyre Engine, Third Party Support, Budget Development Kits and marketing from Sony is much more significant.

Nintendo are by no means a small company, they could do much more. Sony have taken a huge financial hit this gen and yet they still find the time and resources to devote to things I've been listing in the later half of this thread.

That's not to great for the fans then, if every game has to sell something like 5 million units or it doesn't get made, then it actually supports my argument about Nintendos lackluster support for this Wii this gen. Only heavy hitters allowed on the Wii according to you and Nintendo apparently.

It's four years later, it's extremely late. Their going in the right direction, but it's not going to suddenly turn me into a daily Wii player.

You may not think along those lines, but plenty of people on this site do and it comes into this argument because despite all of Nintendos fault's this gen, people are willing to turn a blind eye and claim that it's a part of Nintendos devine plan. Fans should be demanding more from their console maker, they should be demanding a better online service, they should be vocal about having all their Wiiware and VC content tied to a single console, they should demand a new Star Fox, F - Zero, Pikmin etc because at the end of the day Wii buyers are customers and in my eyes they are being treated as second class in comparison to previous Nintendo generations and other current platforms.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Wait, let me get this right... there are people in this thread who only care about new characters and settings, but not new controllers that create new ways to play games and lead to new types of game design?  And they bought a Wii?

So when Star Fox came out, instead of going "Wow, a new type of chip that allows SNES games to have 3D polygons in an on-rail shooter!" we were going "Fuck yeah, a new talking fox!!!"

When Super Mario Bros. first came out, nobody was going "Wow, a scrolling platformer with amazingly precise controls, great music, and tons of invisible secrets!"  Instead, people were going "Hey, that mushroom thing has feet and that turtle has wings, these new characters are soooo awesome!"

When Super Mario Galaxy came out, nobody went "Wow, look at all these amazing new level designs and power-ups!  This game has everything!"  Instead we all went "Oh no, more stupid Mario.  Not again."

And every time a new FPS comes out, you all go "Hell yeah, a new type of Nazi!"

What's next?  If somebody tells me that Sports Champions is more innovative than Wii Sports because it has new characters instead of Miis, my head's going to explode.

wow, i just finished reading through this entire thread and it (and the article) is absolutely ridiculous. The nintendo now IS the the nintendo of the past. Anybody saying otherwise is just very dumb. Sorry.

Like some have said already, it is not nintendo that has changed, it is them. They grew up, and their tastes have changed, but nintendo is making the same kinds of games they did in their hay day (imo NES and SNES) and more. I nearly quit gaming in the N64 days because I felt nintendo changed, and it was even worse for the GC. So I switched over to sony systems. But this gen Nintendo has clearly gone back to what made them popular in the past. I saw this right away and instantly became a Nintendo fan once again, and I haven't been gaming this much since the SNES days. I really doubt I'm the only one that this happened to.

As to those who say that nintendo treats its long time fans as second rate, I'd really like to beg to differ. What have nintendo fans been asking for all these years. New 2d mario, new donkey kong country, new kid icarus, etc. And most of these are now here or coming soon. I think nintendo are clearly listening to their fans, and delivering. I have not been such a happy gamer as I am this gen and again, I don't think I'm the only one.

Now the people in this thread that are saying they agree with the article are most likely nintendo haters, and no matter what nintendo does, they will not be happy and will bitch about no new IP, no innovation, etc, and they will continue to play their 294th generic FPS. But those who follow what nintendo does know that that is BS. So what's the point of trying to defend ourselves against those haters? Nothing we say will change their minds, they just don't like nintendo's style, so what's the use?

And I'm so fucking sick of list wars. They don't matter! Nintendo fans like nintendo games, PS fans like PS games. Either side will look at the other's list and say " that list sucks". Nothing will change that.

I'm so sick of this console war shit. It's the same thing every friggen time. Everybody has different tastes, not everyone will like the same system, deal with it!

But then, I guess if everybody was able to deal with it, we wouldn't have anything else to talk about...

omfg, holy shit, this is ridiculous, I'm sick of this, people suck, I'm done.

wow, so much fail in this thread

IMO Nintendo has made an acceptable amount of new IPs this generation on the Wii such as Disaster (which is a sorely underrated game and recommend you all to play), Xenoblade and Wii ..., however most of the new IPs are small and not major.

Should Nintendo make a new 'core' major IP ?  Probably yes

Is it fair to say that Nintendo is lacking in new IPs this gen? No

OK, I'm not a Nintendo expert, but from what experts wrote, we could sum this thread up in one word. No, this time it's not "d0med", but the second most used qualifier: "lazy".

But even from so little, I learned some precious pearls of wisdom like this:

"Take away the motion and the duck-tape and what does it remain of Wii? A GameCube. Er, actually two GameCubes".    And the worst of it all is that duck-tape wasn't even invented by Nintendo!

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Thank you. I'm glad to see that there are still gamers with common sense.

I've already said this earlier myself that Nintendo really hasn't changed, but certain gamers themselves have. Yet, they continue to demand for the "old Nintendo" to return, and to cater to them. The truth of the matter is, Iwata has brought Nintendo back to their true selves. He is one of the major reasons why Nintendo is doing so well now.

Nintendo is still making great games for their fans as well as games to bring in new gamers, something they have been doing for years. I'm glad to see Nintendo return to their roots, and I hope they will continue to stay that way and not make the same mistakes they made with the Nintendo 64 and GameCube.

So it's you that breaks the threads' unread posts system, first the Malstrom thread, now this one!

The Malstrom one was my fault, one of his(Malstrom) articles would made the post invisible and made the thread look like it always has new posts.
