Forums - Nintendo - Give Us Back The Old Nintendo (Nowgamer article)

Hmm, the article has been taken down. I guess that means the higher-ups are trying to do some damage control after they realized how many of their readers they potentially alienated by posting such an article.

Wouldn't surprise me if they released some sort of "apology" article praising the upcoming Wii/DS lineup at some point.

Bloody hell, someone really took the editorial out! Yeah, waiting for an apology, but in what way: the one that Fister mentioned or someone getting the boot off the job?!

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

The article still exists on the wii.nowgamer subdomain (albeit with a new, more obnoxious URL). I'm not going to give it the dignity of posting a working link, though.

Exactly what games on consoles this gen fit your standard of new game design/content?

Kylie is not going to answer this you know...

Because Nintendo hasn't done any this gen.   THAT IS THE ISSUE.  I already listed previous gen examples, can scroll up if want to see them again.

"I remember the old Nintendo pushing games forward in great new ways, I mean the games, not controllers (power glove ftw!).  Games like the original SMB, SMB3, LoZ, Metroid, then later on advancing them again going 3D like Mario 64 and OoT.  This gen we got Zeldas -still- copying OoT with only minor changes, Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 is just Mario 64 with changing gravity, NSMB Wii has gone back even further than the N64 and is copying SNES games, Donkey Kong has gone back to SNES and so forth."

SMB3 did something new but not NSMBWii? Why is that? SMB3 had new powerups and worlds, but no new gameplay mechanics (except the ones that came with the powerups) NSMBWii also has new powerups, but it also has a new 4 player mode, how is this different from SMB3? Donkey Kong Returns could likely bring new content to the DKC universe, so how is that "Copying SNES games" when SMB3 is OK according to you? Zelda is according to Iwata asks moving away from the OoT formula, and could become something new similar to the 3D games that they made for N64.

Your previous gen examples are very vague, you can't prove anything with them. The only difference between Nintendo now and Nitnendo then is that Nintnedo is not as good at creating game worlds as they used to be, if that was the definition you were looking for, you could make a belivable argument, but as of now, I really don't get the point that you're trying to make. Please define your point properly.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Actually they didn't take it down, they just changed the title removing the first part that was quite a little over-the-top:

While, like many others, I don't really agree with that article and I think that Nintendo must simply make happy both casuals and its old faithful core gamers, I'm very happy that I don't live in a world where people that you don't like lose their jobs. And remember that yes-men can damage successful people and enterprises a lot more than critics.

I get that Alby_da_Wolf, but their has to be some sort of balance in these materials, something that it's really lacking as someone else mentioned (everything he said in his POV and nothing else matters). Now as much as I like to see this fellow get the boot, I can't say BURN HIM in the blink of an eye, 'cause I don't know his track record. But if it's something like this now, it would be hard to see him get a chance to re-evaluelate.

Well, it seems that it's back...

lol @ article... sounds like someone missed E3 this year. ;)

I don't understand why someone would say that the Gamecube was a bad console.

Probably because EAD lost the plot and delivered some of their worst sequels ever (Mario Sunshine, Zelda TWW, Mario Kart DD) while also abandoning others (Wave Race, F-Zero, Star Fox, 1080).

I would say Wii's already an appreciable step up from GameCube in terms of Nintendo's own games.  The problem is chiefly 3rd parties dropping the ball, though that was more or less the same on GameCube.
