Forums - General - Peak Oil Theory.

Forget about the financial crisis and the uncertain economic market.

There is a bigger problem on the horizon than Climate Change. It is called Peak Oil. Peak Oil and world depopulation in 21st century.  Slow down in the supply of oil production and the depopulation of the world's population will follow shortly after.

No one really discusses this issue. 1kJ of Food Production requires 8kJ of energy to produce. Most of the energy is given off as heat in the production of food. Source of most energy is oil. Slow down the food production starve the people and the food prices go up.

No real alternative to oil. Oil prices are rising because the oil supply has reached its peak. The starvation and freezing of the population will occur eventually and over time the population will go down.

Ok I may be labeled a left wing liberal lunatic. I lack the intellectual ability and the scientific knowledge to fully explain Peak Oil.  I will provide  theory papers for you to look at which explains the theory in more detail.

Are you Skeptic or a Believer in Peak Oil Theory? If you are for or against please provide an explanation.

I'm not sure how somebody could be a skeptic of peak oil. They just might be skeptical about when peak oil will occur.

Even people who believe in abiotic oil must understand that it's a geological process, just like the conventional theory of how oil is formed. There's just no way that the planet Earth can produce oil at a rate that matches consumption when humans tear through accessible supplies in a matter of a couple centuries.

oil is a finite resource the world has been consuming it at an experiential rate there will be a point when we can no longer find new supplies and production will fall, there is no way around this. Whether we have hit that point yet IDK we may have and we may not know for many years. So yes I believe in peak oil but I don't think we have reached it yet myself, we are probably close tho as we are already turning to sources that would just not be viable even 5 years ago like oil sands etc.

Not to mention, that we do have some alternatives like natural gas.

Does peak oil exist? Yes. Will it destroy humanity in a mathusian-like scenario? No. We have tons of oil reserves both proven, and potential. I believe we'll drag out production for oil shale for decades, to ensure a smooth transition to better energy sources over the next few decades.

Heck, look at the US. We're starting to really like the idea of electric cars. Hopefully they catch on, and we can transfer how we use oil to less gas-intensive projects.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Peak Oil and depopulation of the human population in the 21st century is the biggest threat facing humanity. The whole human population is solely dependent upon Oil. The world is struggling to support the needs of 7 billion. The economic system could only really support up to 4 billion people.

Starvation due to lack of food will reduce population in developing nations. The cold winters will freeze people in the Winters. Only the richest will survive but without Oil it is back to the Dark Ages.

Slow down the Oil supply =  Slow down the food supply =  Depopulate the world's population.

Starve off the world's population and reduce the population down and there may be a chance for the richest people to survive at the expense of the poor. Oil supply could be maintained through population control measures by the New world Order.

In order to produce most of the alternative energy sources, high amounts of oil were used in the production process. No other alternative energy source is as cheap as oil. Farming land would be taken up to produce bio-diesels to be substituted in the place of oil in developing nations. In order to efficiently mass produce consumer goods  in factories  large amounts of oil is required.

the problem is that crude oil is used to produce just about everything Soup, plastic, fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, paint, synthetic rubber, most inks and dies and then there is the fact to replace all the ~600million cars on earth with electric ones would consume ungodly amounts of resources. The transition better get a lot faster and new ways of making just about everything we use in our day to day lives better get invented.

But there has been promising work on algae that can produce something close to oil so there is hope lol.

World economies rely on infinite growth. Oil is a finite energy source.

Capitalism or Socialism or mixed economy. The economy needs oil for everything.  Mass production of goods and services, food  to feed its people. The main source of production is oil. When the oil supply is slowed down, the economy slows down. Every economic crisis has been directly related to an oil crisis. The discovery of oil peaked in 1962 and since then the amount of oil reserves discovered worldwide despite the advancing technology has decreased over the last 50 years. World  oil production has soared since 1960. Population in 1960  around 3 billion. 50 years later world population is around 7 billion. Oil peaked  production peaked and is declining. Oil prices will rise. Increased demand, limited supply forces the oil prices up. Oil prices only way is up.

Development of china and India and the developing world all want their oil. Infinite high demand of oil  but limited supply of oil = exponential growth over time in oil prices. Oil, really is black gold. Safest stocks in the world are oil and gold due to their limited supply but unlimited demand. Oil barrel price of $US75 will double within two years. Gold price will double in two years as well. All gold reserves are expected to run out within 30 years. All oil reserves will run out within 50  years

What will happen when the oil supply runs out?

Politicians are gearing us up for the end. The people really have no idea what lays in wake for the unfolding of the 21st century. Peak Oil and the world depopulation in the 21st century.  Only the strongest and most affluent people will remain.

If they revealed the truth that we do not really want to know. There would be widespread  panic and chaos.

Will there really be a full economic recovery? Is this the beginning of the end of time?

Depopulation lol? I'd say overpopulation. And lack of oil will never be a limiting factor to pop growth.

When oil runs out in 50 or 60 years we will have transfered over to electricity for all our energy needs.

The biggest threat to the world is OVERPOPULATION. We humans are destroying the ecosystem and biodiversity Earth possesses. So anything that helps depopulate the human population is better for our world.
