I know The Source is a big fan of the Wii and not so much the HD, but MW2 is A game, and it reached 15 million in 8 weeks, much faster than NSMB

VGChartz lists games according to separate SKUs. It's the fastest single SKU to ever hit 15 million.

That's all there is.

The Pokemon games are not seperated.

NPD does seperate games. They also seperate ports.

The Call of Duty games are.

I don't take responsibility for the way the site presents its sales, I just point out that The Source is being consistent here.

@Seece:

This is not a debate. No part of this topic can be called a "debate".

Well I see it differently, let's leave it at that.

I won't, then, because you see it wrongly.

Debate, by its very nature, is a two-sided discussion in which points are presented, acknowledged, conceded, on and on, where a proposition is discussed in terms of merit. The premise of this discussion (I will allow that it is a discussion, at least) is not one of debate, though it could have been if it were something along the lines of "Should SKUs be combined when talking about best-selling games?", but the presentation of this topic precludes discussion on that point because the only valid position, according to this framing, is that yes, they should be. Thihs can't be a debate by definition.

Similarly, the discourse is not full of back-and-forth, it is a two-sided diatribe of disagreement where no progress is made and no judgment is rendered as to which side better presents its case, if cases are indeed ebing presented about anything (they aren't).

You can call it a debate in the same sense that I can call myself an elephant, but we would both be wrong.

I stopped here FYI ^^

The different pokemon versions are combined and those are actually different so I don't see why MW2 should not be combined.

Apples to oranges. Those are slightly altered versions of the same game on the same platform. It's like combining standard and special release sales, which we do also, including Modern Warfare 2. We didn't separate the standard version on the 360 from the one with the nightvision goggles packed in.

This would be part of my reasoning, though I think you're lying in that you won't stop there; well, you already didn't stop there, but it won't stop with your last post, either.

Regardless, I will reiterate my feeling that this is not an appropriate context for someone who contributes to the site to bring up his grief. It's not my place to say so in reference to policy, but as an action it undermines The Source's journalistic authority in the context of the rest of the team, which is bad.

There is no "grief" why must you be so patronising to me Khuutra?

It's perfectly resonable to bring up, it's initiated a good debate, several mods have posted (thus agreeing the topic is fine), nobody has broken any rules (a part from one guy)

At the end of the day, I felt it needed to be brought up. I already said why I'm not going to Brett, he doesn't need to be bothered with this when he's working on 3.0. And Source ignores my comments in threads and walls. He felt he already justified why he didn't add MW2 in his article so anything I say would be meaningless.

We're not NeoGaf, the beauty of VGC is we can debate the numbers, (and thus articles) as long as we have something meaningful to back it up, I've heard Brett say this several times.

Furthermore I havn't slated the site in anyway, the article is fine, it's the title that gripes me.

Ok, So how much did Resident Evil 4 sell? Ive never seen anyone adding PS2, GC and PC numbers to inflate how much it sold on Wii. Unless minor graphical upgrades means its all the sudden not the same game despite it being the same game.

What about Cronotrigger? The DS version is the same as the SNES game. CoD Modern Warfare, do you include Reflex? Okami on Wii and PS2? Do you include the PC ports of HD top line games like all the CoD titles, GTA 4, Half Life and all the others?

Even if you did, none of them would have hit 15 million in 8 weeks ^_-

I know, Im just wondering where we draw the line.

Im not in either camp but the way I see it a single game to sell 15 units on one console is a lot more impressive than three games on two consoles and the PC selling the same number only slightly quicker.

You do know they address it IN the article:

It is by far the fastest time any game has reached 15 million units on a single platform. Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, available for the two HD platforms - which have a slightly bigger base than Wii - reached 15 million units combined at an earlier date than New Super Mario Bros. Wii while launching at roughly the same time primarily on its enormous 8 million unit launch week. However, NSMB Wii holds the record for fastest title to reach 15m units on a single platform.

I swear, some people need to learn to read... -_-

I agree with you guys, except most people say the Wii verison is just a clone of the DS verison with better graphics.

However, does not change the fact that I think the title should of been quickest exclusive game to sell to 15million.

So you have never played the game, and are trying to comment on it? Thats special. There are almost no similarities between the two games outside of superficial ones like names and characters.

Ya it is more impressive, the article isn't measured in what's most impressive though is it?
