Forums - Sales - Its time to admit it. PS3 will NEVER overtake 360.

I´m going to be really honest when i say it´s very sad that the 360 is selling like hot cakes in this past few weeks.

And before anyone calls me a PS3 fanboy, i don´t have a PS3, i have a 360.

The point is, Microsoft needs to fall hard, and it´s for their own good, because at this point, they suck like no tomorrow.

They lack in first parties, they lack on exclusives (except the timely ones and DLC crap), they even lack on Ips for they live on Halo, Fable and Forza alone (Gears and Mass Effect are third party, they can lose it at any time).

They are a american console for the american people, they don´t care for anyone else (which is just pathetic in this day and age), and you can see that with the all 20 minutes ESPN on their E3 press conference or that the Xbox live price is equal in every market (basically, the world is financing the US Xbox Live).

They need to fall so they open their eyes and think for a moment.

What are you babbling about? They have plenty of first party exclusives. The Halo series, Fable series, Forza series, Crackdown series, etc. They are also working on bringing a lot of first party exclusives to the Kinect. On top of that they have some of the best 3rd party exclusives via retail and Xbox Live.

The Xbox 360 has most of its success in the US and that's why there is a huge focus there. Its their bread and butter. But its not doing too bad oversees either. If they were doing better in Japan this probably wouldn't even be a discussion.

All the systems will remain in there current positions throughout the rest of the gen. Who cares if the ps3 remains in third place. hopefully sony can learn from there mistakes,if they come out with the ps4. lol

you use so much LOL

it will be difficult for 360 to stay in 2nd place as MS will replace it faster than Wii2 and PS4

That is a good point.

IF Japan were more open to foreign technology and bought them in the same way they buy their own products like the rest of the world does the gap would probably be a lot higher. In a way 360 has actually been handicapped this gen as can only really sell in mass to the other 2 regions. While Nintendo and Sony can obviously sell to all regions freely. I think the fact the 360 has sold nearly 1.5m in Japan is a massive achievement for it.

Who knows maybe Kinect will help to sell a few more 360's in Japan....

Technology like the Ipod maybe?

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Huh? I don't understand

Obviously there was going to be a big boost, do you think it's going to continue to sell over 200K or something?

Not to mention the Japan boost, after a couple weeks the X360 will be back to selling under 3K again, and the PS3 still has Others, it's just America. When things start leveling out again both will be selling on par.

PS3 still has a long way to go, lot's more price cuts, big games (it's biggest has yet to release) and move. The PS3 will beat the X360 in good time.

I think there are too many assumptions which have to be made to predict the final sales trends beyond the next few months. All we can really say is that the date which the previous market trends would indicate the PS3s LTD sales would pass the Xbox 360s has been pushed back 3-6 months. However that too is subject to change. Anyone saying anything different is talking out of their butt!

I also want to say that the Xbox 360 S is actually more important for the EU and Japan than it is for the U.S. You have to consider that DSL and wireless are more common and physical internet connections at the TV are more limited. In addition to this the area of the living rooms are smaller in these places so the percieved difference in noise are much greater. This is why American 360 owners downplay noise and wireless as a factor and why European people do not as much. Im talking long term trends here and not the short term boost its getting due to being redesigned. Finally people in these areas are less positive towards the 360 in general so they will be far less likely to overlook percieved reliability shortcomings than Americans.

Finally the Xbox 360 is in a better medium term position to shed further costs on the console. With only one CPU package remaining they can shrink the CPU/ED-Ram once again and combine them both as ED-Ram is on a CMOS process due to the fact it also incorporates logic transistors. This means they can keep pace with any PS3 price cuts or even exceed the pace of PS3 price cuts if they so desired. However I do not forsee any changes in the new console packaging externally as at this point they can save very little here without increasing their costs in other areas like for instance going for a slimmer laptop drive.

Tease.

again with the "Japan is biased, they're not open!" garbage when everything they do is considered "weird ass shit" by Westerners

While MSFT's growth from last gen to this gen should be applauded....their lack of sales isnt because theyre american.

If you really think thats a handicap, we shouldnt even be having this discussion of 360 vs PS3 sales since the 360 had a full year on the market and a nice little bragging right of being the first HD console and next gen console available worldwide.

Id say the later, rather than Sony having earned the foothold they have in Japan is far more of a hinderence in this discussion about head to head sales.

I mean, the 360 had one full year with no Wii or PS3 to compete with as next gen, thats huge in this discussion, but generally isnt brought up because we have accepted it as th enorm. So dont try to bring in the singling out Japan like MSFT is at some disadvantage when comparing numbers, here.

I really don't think it matters anymore. The gap is so small relative to the total console sales of both 360 and PS3, and neither have done well enough over the other to secure HD exclusives so the vast majority of games are multiplatform. As long as Sony continue to get 3rd-party titles and churn out their own exclusives then software sales-wise I think the future looks rosy even if they stay in last place.
