Forums - Sales - Sales wise has Nintendo made a good decision in reviving old franchises?

I just want Star Fox and F-zero on the Wii. Why do the best franchises have to sell the least? -_-

You can replace Star Fox with Sin and Punishment 2.  F-Zero...we're out of luck.

Goldeneye is being made by a company called Eurocom (a longtime maker of movie tie-in shovelware). It's also being published by Activision and not Nintendo.

I predict 1m at the most for that game.

For those wondering: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurocom

There is a lot of crap in their list of games.  Of the more recent stuff, I see James Bond 007: Nightfire, which was decent.  They also did the PS2 version of Quantum of Solace, which got the best reviews for that game believe it or not.  They also had a hand in Dead Space: Extraction which got good critical reception, although I have no clue what their role in that game was.

So there is some hope there, not much, but some.

I'm more worried about Activision than Eurocom. Something tells me they are rushing this game out the door only to under market it upon it's release.

Nintendo has overused their franchise but because of their brand names the franchises lived on

Yes, it is good to release new titles for any franchise at least twice a decade if not more. New IPs are nice, but they are a gamble due to not having the nostalgia factor along with a segment of gamers who dub themselves "hardcore" and everything Nintendo "casual" may very well likely not even look at your game unless their "hardcore" junior high and high school friends are raving about it.

Gamers have a long memory. I am speaking mainly of adult gamers who were well into their teens by the time Halo came out. These gamers like myself grew up playing Mario Bros on the NES, Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong Country 1-3, and on. We will buy this game.

As for the younger "hardcore" gamers, I am quite unsure and am keen on wanting to know what their beloved franchises are?

My predictions:

Donkey Kong Country Returns - 3 to 7 million range

Kirby's Epic Yarn - 2 to 4 million range

Kid Icarus - 2 to 4 million range

Goldenye 007 - 4 to 8 million range

I agree with your predictions except for the Goldeneye 007. I do not believe it will make such a huge splash some people think it will. I predict 2 to 4 million. Only time will tell though.

Kid Icarus is a trully desired IP revival by most older Nintendo gamers. Now that there is a new hardware in the works, its a perfect oportunity IMO to finally make a new game. It comes from a reliable developer, and as a technical showcase for the core 3DS audience. If advertised correctly it could easily do 2 million .

Never the less Im betting ~ 1.5 million worst case, while Pahntom Hourglass numbers in best case

Other than that I agree with your predictions

Icarus will have mega legs because it's the major launch title and tech demo for the 3DS. Same reason Uncharted had legs on the PS3. Not a lot of competition, means most new 3DS owners will pick it up. It's a full fledged, high dollar GOOD 3DS game from ground up and those will be few and far between at launch.

If the game wasn't the flagship game for a new console, you would be right, but I think that it will have megalegs, spured by word of mouth and over-rated reviews, due to the newness of the tech(see Perfect Dark 0).

That said, the game looks great, and should be AAA.

I don't need your console war.

You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Sure it was a good move... I predict

Donkey Kong Country Returns - 5 to 8 million

Kirby's Epic Yarn - 3 to 4 million

Kid Icarus - 3 to 4 million range

Menx64

3DS code: 1289-8222-7215

NNid: Menx064

I have to say that I'm actually not sure about the whole DKC Returns thing.  Sure, I would love to be looking at this site a year from now and see that it has sold 10m units, but I have my doubts.

The thing is, this game will either sell really well, or really poorly.  There will probably not be an "in between."

This is because I am not sure but what some people have maybe lost faith in old DK...that they think that there will never be any going back to the original, and that no current DK game would be as good as the old ones.

My predictions are 1 of 2 things:

DKC returns will either sell 6-8 million plus, or less than 1 million.

Also, we are forgetting games for Nintendo 3DS for the most part.  The only one I saw touched upon was Kid Icarus: Uprising.  I predict that game selling around 1-1.5 million units worldwide.

However, we forgot about games like Paper Mario 3DS and Mario Kart 3DS.  With Paper Mario 3DS, it is pretty easy to tell how many games will probably be sold--around 2-3 million.  This has been about the selling point for the other three Paper Mario titles.

Mario Kart 3DS, on the other hand, could be a different story.  It is difficult to tell how many units that game would sell...I honestly think it is a sole matter on hardware sales.  Probably anywhere from 5 million to 25 million.  :P
