Why do you hate Nintendo so much? What franchises are overused? Compared to who?
Oh wait. You're a Nintendo fanboy mole. NVM.

Kid Icarus is a trully desired IP revival by most older Nintendo gamers. Now that there is a new hardware in the works, its a perfect oportunity IMO to finally make a new game. It comes from a reliable developer, and as a technical showcase for the core 3DS audience. If advertised correctly it could easily do 2 million .
Never the less Im betting ~ 1.5 million worst case, while Pahntom Hourglass numbers in best case
Other than that I agree with your predictions

Yeah, it's a smart idea. Nintendo is only reacting to the market. The market loved classic 2d mario, so perhaps they will love classic 2d Donkey Kong and Kirby?
Donkey Kong Country is the safest bet. I can see it easily having 5-10m lifetime sales. Retro is a good studio and will make a quality game (they've proven that they can revive old franchises).
Before E3, I would have said that a new Kirby game wouldn't be marketable. But from what I've seen at E3, this game stands out. I think 1-2m is what I would expect from a game like this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it sold more than that.
Kid Icarus is a tough one. It really wasn't that popular on the NES (Hence there is no "Super Kid Icarus" or "Kid Icarus 64"). This will be looked at as a new IP for many customers. I imagine it could sell pretty well in Japan (it seems like a Japan-type game). Then there's the 3d aspect, which this game seems to use extremely well. Perhaps 1-3m is not out of the question.

New IPs are nice, but they are a gamble due to not having the nostalgia factor along with a segment of gamers who dub themselves "hardcore" and everything Nintendo "casual" may very well likely not even look at your game unless their "hardcore" junior high and high school friends are raving about it. Gamers have a long memory. I am speaking mainly of adult gamers who were well into their teens by the time Halo came out. These gamers like myself grew up playing Mario Bros on the NES, Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong Country 1-3, and on. We will buy this game. As for the younger "hardcore" gamers, I am quite unsure and am keen on wanting to know what their beloved franchises are? My predictions: Donkey Kong Country Returns - 3 to 7 million range Kirby's Epic Yarn - 2 to 4 million range Kid Icarus - 2 to 4 million range Goldenye 007 - 4 to 8 million range |

Your predictions seem about right to me except for a few. Hard to predict Kid Icarus but I think Donkey Kong Country Returns will sell least 5 million easily and probably do the best out of all those games. I think Goldeneye will sell around 7 million but that might just be wishful thinking (we have to see how the game turns out first, also FPS shooters don't really break high millions on Wii yet but that could change with Goldeneye). Anyways, I'm still waiting for another F-Zero..... Let Sega produce it again.....

Kid Icarus - I think this one is the biggest question mark. Obviously rumors of a revival to the franchise had been going around for years, and that alone made its announcement exciting. But it seems a little strange to me that Nintendo seemed to premiere this game as their headlining 3DS launch title. Sure the original game sold a solid 1.75 million but that hardly makes it one of Nintendo's bigger hits. Throw in how long ago the last title in the franchise released and many of the potential 3DS customers weren't even alive at that point. From the creator of the massive Super Smash Bros. series I wonder if they could not have come with a game that was a new IP and be more successful. |
The headlining 3DS title is the OoT remake, I don't care what anyone says.

the way i see it nintendo will advertise all three games, and all three games will sell great. With Kirby and Donkey Kong there's no doubt and with Kid Icarus being a launch title it will most likely be everyones first 3ds, esspecially if they put that game as the demo in the store. New ips are great, but the hardcore have been waiting for these games for a long time. :)

Considering that Activision is re-doing Goldeneye 007, I am prepared for the worst. Imagine the multiplayer bugs, glitches and exploits that were so common in Modern Warfare 2 due to no public beta on Goldeneye 007 for the Wii.
I shudder and convulse in giggles just imagining my little brother screaming profanities at his tv when playing Goldenye 007 online.
Here's the thing a new IP would be great but as you pointed out Donkey Kong was long over do. As for launching Kid Icarus for the 3DS as the launch title, its simple Nintendo wanted to rejuvinate an old franchise and make it worth something again and by making it the 3DS launch title that is a sure fire way to sell a couple million and jumpstart the franchise.
Now yes Nintendo could have launched a new IP to launch the 3DS but Nintendo wants to reach out to their hardcore demographic the Nintendo gamers who have been playing Nintendo games since Kid Icarus. What better way to show your fans that you care then to release a classic?
In the end I'm sure Nintendo will launch a new IP soon for the 3DS but for now it makes more sense to use existing properties!
