As pointed out, you are not comparing apples with apples. Just because one store broke the street date, that is why. There is no way we can make a 1:1 comparison so let's just say both did very well.

Actually it seems Selnor wants to count the week that a few stores broke the street date as the launch because it makes the 360 Slims launch seem bigger.  But, it actually makes it look worse.  I mean you had a week of the PS3's old model plus street date broken Slims selling at $299, and yet the PS3 was still able to sell over 160K the following week (the Slims real launch).  In one of its weakest regions, to boot.

And the 360 S launch was a surprise soft launch with little availability so it is really a wash.  PS3 had a couple of weeks to get the word out that the Slim was coming.

360 S was suprise but they had it in stock on website and alot of sales came from discounted units too

Yes but no advertisements in retailer advertisements or TV ads.  Even retailers didnt know about it. That week I stopped in Best Buys and Target and they still had the old prices on the Arcades, Elites, and Bundles. They needed to scan the units to see that the price was reduced.  The gift cards from Target and Walmart were not advertised in the Sunday circular the weekend before. They just appeared.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

yeah but you are also forgetting that once 360 discounted SKU sellout there will be drop in sales too

now the question is how much can the XBOX SLIM sales can compensate for them

The xbox slim lauch seems to be having a great impact.

PS3  Slim sold 0.5m units week one WW. I do not think 360S will be able to beat it.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/5105/ps3-slim-sells-over-500000-units-worldwide-in-the-first-week/

Actually, 600k with adjustments.

yeah...are we crazy? the ps3 sold 500k its first week if i'm not wrong...

in america the week the big retailers break the launch date, the ps3 sold 100k....the europe week, it sold 250k! and in japan it sold 150k! if america should be the biggest peak for the 360, Selnor, you can't expect it to outsell the Slim launch..... let's not forget that the day the PS3Slim launched, the 360 had a elite price cut, a arcade price cut in europe and several bundles...

There was no Arcade price cut in Europe. The 360 hasnt dropped in price in EU ( where I live ) for over a year.

really? didn't the arcade dropped its price from 200 Euros to 150?

America = World because #s in America for the 360 usually always win.

Or maybe the 360 slim has only released in NA.....but you wouldnt know anything about that....

Not in reference to this. I meant as in a whole. Most people only use America #s when comparing PS3/360 sales.

I have noticed that IGN and Kotaku actually do this quite a bit.

That's because of NPD.  VGChartz is the only place that tracks WW numbers.

Well all I have to say is the PS3 slim first week BETTER be way way higher then the 360 slim first week since they had a $100 price cut (which is huge) and they discounted the fat models to way lower prices too.

they discounted the FAT models but they had already outsold most of them till PS3 SLIMMER launched and they didn't price-cut the FAT models under SLIMMER price unlike 360 ELITE being under 360 SLIM price
