The 11m is a fiscal year target, and it means they need to sell 6m in the next THREE months (assuming they get to around 8.5m by the end of the calender year).

Its not only impossible, its ridiculous. If they don't downgrade their forecast after this quarter is over... they will be the laughing stock of the industry 3 months later.

Even if they sold the SAME number of units in the 1st qrt of '08 as they will over the Xmas period (which never, ever, ever happens) - they will STILL fall around 2-3m units short.

Even another $100 price drop (instant), or dropping the 60Gig (+PS2) model down to $299 - and bundling 2 games - wouldn't get close to their target. Even with GTA, MGS, Prologue & FF.

Good luck to them - I can't wait to see what spin they manage to put on this one ("sorry, we meant 11m lifetime sales!").

Just to prove that the people who are doubting these forecasts are not crazy, here is a thread posted more than 4 months ago about this subject:

What has changed since that thread started and now is that the forecast now seems even crazier. I predicted that they wouldn't change it in their Q2 report due to them awaiting crazy holiday sales, but I think they'll change it in their Q3 report. If they don't, egg will be on their faces next April.

Soriku says some crazy stuff sometimes, but in this case he's right. Sony said they would sell 11m for the fiscal year and that's an undeniable fact.

Sony have 4mths to ship enough units to retailers. This should be manageable unless Jan-Mar sucks for PS3 sales really badly and logically speaking they shouldn't suck that much.

11mil shipped by Mar08 is definitely within the realm of possibility.

They can make 11 M if they are right on 8M dec 31st and sell about 700k monthly WW.

 They're goal is 11 million shipped(as in sold to retailers) for this fiscal year.  Adding that to the 3.6 million they shipped last year brings the goal to 14.6 million shipped LTD at the end of of March '08.  It's unlikely that there would be about 3.5 million units in the retail channel in a non-holiday period.  It's more likely that there'd be close to 1 million or 2 million tops.  So there'd have to be ~12.5-13.5 million units sold to consumers at that point.

But even if it were only 11M to consumers.  How do you get from 8M to 11M with 3 months of 700k sales?

No im not talking about that. Im talking about soriku predicting the ps3 only selling 5.5-6.5 million units by the end of 2007. As for sony by the end of march 2008 i predict the ps3 will have sold 11-12 million units world wide.
