I know that the 36 year old virgin comment is directed at me so I will address it.  First off, I am actually 37.  For some reason I put in my correct birthday, but VGChartz makes me a year younger, not that I'm going to complain about it.  When you get a year, you don't question it and take it.

Because I am unhappy when you are happy, I shall tell you how to change the year to the correct one:  this site is run by one o' dem Brits, and you know how they get all confused about where the day and the month should go.  So instead of entering your birthday as mm/dd/yyyy, like a normal and rational human being, enter it as dd/mm/yyyy.  Otherwise, it thinks you were born on the 30th month of the year or somesuch.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have candy to steal and children's sand castles to smash.  Up up and away!

Is there a way to put people on a ignore list so you can't see anything they post?? beacuse I seriously need it now after reading some of the most stupid thing I have ever read on this last page...

PM Words of Wisdom: he had a great script for that on 2.0, and might be working on something similar for 3.0.

I miss the Ignore button...

I thought the saying is "tried and true", not "tired and true". Weird wording there, imo.

When it comes to Nintendo, the latter is correct.

You don't see Sony just putting out sequel after sequel featuring  Jak, Crash, Spyro, Ratchet, or Sly this gen.

lololol!  Oh god, I don't think the world can take that much irony.

Actually... did Sony have any retail PS3 games at E3 that weren't direct sequels?  Was Heroes on the Move (a game featuring... well, almost all their milked mascots) and that soulless Harry Potter clone the only ones?

infamous23 is seemingly to much concentrated on new IPs instead of fun and original games, as if those supposedly new IPs were any good representation of smth actually new in gaming, whilst most of the time it's actually the opposite, and successful new IPs sell due to use of gameplay and content people already like. In fact, I did comparison of Nintendo new IPs sales this gen versus practically everybody else, do I need to say that they crushed the competition in every possible way?

Though If we try to make compraison another way by finding these "actually new" elements in them, I'm afraid there will be too much subjectivism involved and results may vary from person to person. So overall it's pointless work, but at least I can give my opinion on what I think about majority of so called new IPs this gen:

Try to compare the same way, say, Mario games this gen (SMG, Super Paper Mario, MKWii, NSMBWii) that supposed to be old and overused IP and nothing actually new, and hopefully see the difference ^_^

Of course the difference is the others do have games like the Mario games.  See Little Big Planet, Braid, or Limbo.  But they also have games geared at mature audiences that contain mature themes indicating that they're not afraid to try to take chances on more mature themes in their games.

Meanwhile Nintendo keeps pumping out games featuring the same kiddie characters they've used since the eighties.

And even though they have new ips like Wii Music, Wii Fit, if you notice there seems to be a strong push against including edgier or controversial material in their own games.

Primarily because they know the kind of flak they will take from certain groups of they do.  Funny after all the flak they took over Madworld, designed by another company, from certain activists groups against such a game appearing on their console, then they don't show one M game on Wii at E3 this year.  However, being afraid to evolve artistically into something more mature isn't very artistic.

Is there even one M game coming to Wii this year?

Sega at least they know how to keep their old fans happy -- Sonic Colors, but they aren't afraid to try to evolve gaming from the kiddie fare it became after Nintendo took over from Atari in the early eighties into something more adult -- Bayonetta and HOTD:  Overkill.

Mickey Mouse cartoons are fine for awhile but eventually you really should try DeathNote.

This question displays a combination of ignorance of the game catalog and narrow minded concept of what a "video game" must be to be considered valid.

A video game is quite a broad thing.  And just becuase something doesn't innovate in a niche segment doesn't mean it's not innovative on the whole.

Wow... do you even look at the Wii games coming out?

But then again you're another type that thinks the M rating on the box means the content is mature (as in maturity not content that should not be seen by kids) E games have been more mature.  Sorry but thinking about games and game play in such ways that each iteration feels new and fresh is an artistic achievement and being able to do it so many times since the 1980s just shows their consistency.

But I'm certain you haven't even looked into games like Earthbound or Mother 3 and still hold that flimsy excuse of a belief in what mature content and artistic evolution is.

So, I guess no M games have been announced for Wii this year?

@infamous23

I'm barely older than you and I never got so overworked about "mature" themes  in games or whatever, because it's not worth it. Viper1 said it all.

//Concerning Little Big Planet, Braid and Limbo. I can't say anything about Limbo since I didn't play it, but both LPB and Braid are horrible examples of good platforming mechanics, even the worst Mario game miles better than those in platforming action. I can agree though that both LBP and Braid might have some appeal besides platforming, but personally I've never found them good enough to finish those games.

The best example of nice and fresh platforming mechanics from recent games you may find is 'Splosion Man, but the game is quite repetitive due to mediocre level design and it's not challenging at all compared to such games as NSMBW.

Metroid Prime, Metroid: Other M, Sin and Punishment: Star Succesor, Punch Out, both Zelda's, both Mario Galaxies, Xenoblade, The Last Story....

Yup, only Wii series games and 2D platformers.

After all that experience with Metroid why not put Retro on something their system needs namely a new core ip instead of a Donkey Kong game and if it has to be a Donkey Kong game why not one in 3d?

Sin and Punishment is from Treasure, Mario Sports Jam makes the 6th Mario game on Wii in four years?  How come they have time to make 6 Marios on Wii but not one Mother game since 2005?

Xenoblade is from Monolith.  The Last Story is from Mistwalker.

Old post I know, but man this shows how little you actually know about the companies.

Xenoblade is first party since Monolith has been a Nintendo developer since the start of this generation

As for "Mario Sports Jam" (which is actually Mario Sports Mix) that is developed by Square Enix.

Anyway carry on with the foolishness if you must haha

Well, when you look in other artistic works, I'm sure more films in the past twenty years that have received Oscars for Best Picture have been R rated rather than G rated.  And Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns isn't considered to be one of the greatest graphic novels of all time because it kept the Adam West Batman level of maturity going for a whole new generation in the eighties.  The truth is that the more mature a work is, then the more emotions it is able to contain thus broadening its ability to be artistic.

I liked Earthbound.  Haven't played Mother 3.  I considered Earthbound the closest thing to a Robert Anton Wilson novel like Illuminatus! at the time I played it, but Nintendo refused to give us in the US an Earthbound Collection or Mother 3 in later years, and it seems they would rather spend money on titles like Mario Sports Mix or another Wii series game than trying to convince the creator of the Mother series to make a new game in it.

And the odds are that if he did, it wouldn't see the light of day outside of Japan in any form until a fan translation was done.
