Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Could anyone really kill Nintendo?

Did you really need to do 4 posts in a row Solid_Snake

Who else is going to come and take the gaming scene by storm? MS is one of the biggest companies and couldn't kill off Nintendo, Sony is huge also and couldn't. What other huge electronic media companies can enter the gaming business, the only big one I see is Apple, they are also the only ones I think have the creative minds to possibly kill off Nintendo.

The only way Nintendo can die off is a huge buycott type of situation where no one wants to buy Nintendo products. In normal circumstances Nintendo can be last and still make a profit.

Also saying the President of a company does not help bring success is weird. Of course there are other factors, they is just not one sole factor for success but a President can help or greatly hinder a company.

i was just replying their quote to me

MICROSOFT even being a big company doesn't really have a brand in the gaming scene and their main aim is to take down SONY so their's doesn't matter

SONY only made gaming consoles and destroyed  NINTENDO in that space but Nintendo survived with their profits from GAMEBOY handhelds.with the PS3 they sacrificed for BLU-RAY and so Wii got the attention

APPLE would kill Nintendo as their 'COOLNESS' will slowly die off as is of any oter company which experiences success for long time and their 'COOL' image is very vital to their product sales

i didn't say the PRESIDENT doesn't bring success but if you follow one of the guys said "as long as IWATA is there Nintendo cannot dies" and i replied

that president alone will not make it happen

And the MASSIVE amount of Nintendo confidence continues. People on here are really on a tear about the 3DS this and the 3DS that. You would think this was the second coming or something. Sony had the highest selling video game system ever in the PS2 and had over 100 million sellers. They were unstopable coming into this generation and got out to a slow start. The PS1 and PS2 won their generations and now Sony is losing this generation. Things change.

People should wait before they signal the 3DS the king.

As long Iwata his alive , I think nintendo is safe.

really?

IWATA doesn't make nintendo succesfull though

Yea, once he became President (or wuteva his title is) they decided to change their approach, and approved the "test" with the DS. He is pretty much legendary for supporting this massive turn around in product design marketing and profitability.

yes he did bring revolutionary devices but many other things like PS3's high price also helped alot

Sony made many mis-steps this generation. Price. B/C. Rumble. Differing SKUs/models. The list goes on.

But Sony made one mistake in the late 1980s/early 1990s, when it tried to use contracts to gain profits from Nintendo as part of a partnership. It is (finally) paying for that. http://www.n-sider.com/contentview.php?contentid=231

Nintendo seeing Apple as its enemy in the future:

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/nintendo-apple-is-enemy-of-the-future/8248

SONY made mistake of price as they sacrificed PS3 for future profits of BLU-RAY

B/C was not a mistake and didn't make much difference when console was so highly priced.also they just removed it afterwords so that PS2 sales would make up for PS3 loss

RUMBLE again did not make much difference compared to how price effected it

different/sku again were made so that loss would be less on some units and this didn't effect sales anywhere near the price

do you even know what the NINTENDO-SONY contracts were for.

Nintendo approched SONY to make a CD based version of SNES not SONY.

Nintendo have sometimes declined APPLE as enemy and sometimes confirmed it,anyways APPLE will not effect hardcore gaming

Not without reason of course, and Sony has give plenty of reason for that change. Either way, even if Nintendo were to lose its first place position I doubt it would die out. They set things up so well that it is quite difficult for that to happen.

yeah with the money they have they can bomb next two generation and still be there as even if they bomb they only take minimal risk

Nintendo is the only gaming company that will last the test of time. Sony and Microsoft will die, just like Atari and Sega did. It's already beginning to show. Sony and MS are making motion controls to keep up with Nintendo, but they're barely keeping up. Nintendo is always at least one step ahead, if not in technology then in innovation.

Microsoft is showing it the worst. With the loss of Bungie they're in deep shit. They haven't got many great first-party developers. They've almost completely abandoned PC gamers like myself, though Fable 3 is a nice addition to the list of exclusives that the 360 doesn't have. Xbox Live is old fashioned now as well, with Steam doing everything that XBL does, except many times it's better. I foresee Microsoft making one more console, then dropping out, and you can quote me on that.

Sony is doing a bit better, but it's too late for them. They just recently started turning a profit, and the PS3 is selling pretty decently, but this doesn't change the fact that it happened too late. The damage is already done, and Sony won't be able to recover it any time soon. I predict that Sony might last for a good while, but they will never be a major player like they were the last two generations.

Could it happen, sure, but the likelihood is small, its more likely that a train, plane and container ship will all hit me at exactly the same time

The major difference here is, most Sony systems did not sell due to their own games. They largely sold due to third parties (the PS2 and PSP, anyway). Nintendo has shown it can carry a system almost entirely by itself, so if third parties support them, how can anyone compete?

Even if Nintendo's next few consoles somehow end up constantly declining in sales, it should take a very long time (over 10, 15 years) for them to start becoming irrelevant...

Nothing is impossible. The problem is that nobody quite has a handle on the games industry like Nintendo does. Even through the PS1 and PS2, Sony's goals in the game industry were such that they really couldn't run Nintendo out. To run out Nintendo hardware, you basically have to make Nintendo software irrelevant, which was never the case even in the darkest days of the GameCube.

Nintendo could destroy themselves if they let their software quality slide, easily, but otherwise it would take a foe really dedicated to 1-upping Nintendo at their own game.

And then they return with another disruption, just like this time around
