Microsoft has not failed... they have failed you.

This is their first step into going full (well, almost full anyway) casual for the future - where the money really is

Of course that means sacrifices to their hardcore investments, but they want to command the family living room, not the fratboy bedroom anymore.

To me Kinect is going to sell a lot, much more than move - even though I'm gonna buy move and not Kinect.

It'll be interesting to see how many of teh casualz will be willing to shell out for Live Gold, which is where MS seems to make all its money.

Microsoft doesn't really strike me as being capable of stealing Nintendo's audience, but they do seem very capable of losing their own if they push this shit too hard, too fast on the "frat boys" who have been their biggest supporters since day one. Nintendo, on the other hand, seems perfectly positioned to unify a lot of this divided market behind them next generation.

Sorry for the use of fratboys term... I don't really know it that's offensive or not.
So yeah, they'll have almost to start from zero - so you're correct, it's going to be interesting to see if they can do that. It's going to be even harder than stealing Sony's thunder like they did before.

But it'll be a gradual transition... there'll be plenty of Halo still. But the main goal is, imo, a Xbox like those videos in their conference - i.e. - "Xbox, turn off lights. Xbox, play movie. Xbox, rub my feet" kinda of things... automation of the entertainment center. Plus video chat, casual games, social networks, those things.

All in all, they discovered Sony is not really the threat like they thought before. It's someone like Nintendo or other company dominating the living room.

Last year's Natal was hyped as being the greatest thing ever, EVERYONE loved it(except me). They thought Milo was incredible, we were going to get things the Wii could never imagine!

1 year later we get.....

Kinect Sports

Kinect Play

Kinect Fit

Kinectdogs

All the stuff people thouight was awesome last year is nowhere to be seen, and the impressions on the floor seem to be mixed.

I believe these gifs speak for themselves (if they are true).

I don't know, either. But it's not inaccurate!

I've got a better one for you.

Yes...the Cirque de Soleil was staged, but it had to be for them to put on a smooth performance, as stated by Aaron Greenberg in an interview with Torrence Davis from thebitbag.com

In all due honesty I think natal will be 50/50 win or fail.....

I mean the games arent terrible its just not good enough for a purchase just yet

Where the hell is Killer Instinct, perfect Dark , Banjo Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, or Conker natal related RARE!!!!!!!

If those games would have been at launch I defenitely would be remotely interested in getting one

but no, RARE dissapoints yet again :-|

huh ?

The point was missed. It's about critical reception - and mainly the reception of the gaming community. Sure Nintendo put on a great show in '06, but up until 2008 people still doubted the Nintendo Wii, and it's contribution to good gaming. Titles such as Wii Fit, Super Mario Galaxy, and others helped push Nintendo beyond successful with their efforts. The point is...Microsoft is in a position much like Nintendo was when it first introduced the idea of motion based gaming. When it comes to critical reception from the gaming community at least. It's a gimmick most say, or it's only for casuals...my favorite - simply, "fail". Yet the same things were said of Nintendo's Wii, and we all can clearly see how that turned out. While Kinect may not be (ok let's be real, it won't) as successful as the Wii, that doesn't mean it'll bomb/fail.

Remember when it was codenamed the "Revolution"...then unveiled as the, "Wii"?

Remember how people said, "No one wants to wave a remote at the screen! Gimme my controller!" (you get the point).

It's a new approach to a established, and successful way of gaming. Give it time. I'm just trying to stay positive here, God knows i ate alot of crow when i misjudged the the Wii's control scheme, and success.

The critical reception for Wii Music was also similar and eventually it did fail. So it's just as likely (if not moreso) that Kinect could go that way too.

Why do you consistenly compare a video game (software) to a peripheral (hardware)? Especially seeing as how they are in no way connected? Your point is irrelevant.

*facepalm*

That article is a confirmation, not a debunking.
