Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo has so much, why did they show so little?

But your original post highlights what was so good about Nintendo's show-they had amazing products, and we want more. Not just more products, but more about what Nintendo have already unveiled. They've created enormously high levels of anticipation for 3DS and their software, and they did that by giving us information, but without overloading us. In the aftermath of E3, many question marks remain about Nintendo's future products, and anticipation is high. We'll have to wait for answers, and keep track of Nintendo in order to do so.

It's a masterful display by Nintendo, really. They've captured plenty of interest, and they aren't going to let go of that easily.

Well if their goal was to have me begging for more and wondering what else they have held back and not shown at the conference then they did a great job. I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting more and more and more, but I guess if Nintendo were to indulge us with everything right now the hype train would slow to a hault.

I don't agree with Nintendo releasing new info all week long instead of stunning the living crap out of us at their press conference but it does make some sense. I just wish they as one person put it caused us all to have heart attacks by revealing all those screens during their press event. Wouldn't that have been freaking amazing!

orchestrated music/voice acting etc.

They already reveal it'll be orchestrated. And of course we know for years now there won't be voice acting.

More games (13) were announced at this E3 by Nintendo that I want to buy than any other previous E3. So I am VERY happy. :3

Oh boy, a Wii Vit.............ZzZzZZZZzZzZzZzZZZzZZzZ

all 3 firms have lots to show, its just they cant cram it into just 1 e3, other stuff will be revealed at gamescom and a lot more in TGS

Well if the 3rd party support so far is any indication, they're willing to let their franchises take a back seat if it means making 3rd parties more comfortable. I imagine there's an element of that to it.  So instead of pulling out PilotWings and Mario Kart (Pilotwings especially has been the biggest E3 news for me) they gave that limelight to 3DS 3rd party developers.

I imagine this won't be the last time we'll see Nintendo publicly courting 3rd parties and even giving them preference at events. I really hope it's also an indication of Wii2 support.

The conference was perfect as is.  Well, barring the Zelda snafu, but having it there right away for hands on play at the end sort of countered that anyway.  Laser focus > padded montages any day.

My real disappointment was in the games they didn't bring to E3 at all (specifically Xenoblade).

Thanks to you two for what you brought to discussion. I mostly agree with Asriel thus I do think it is all part of a strategy. Knowing the right place and the right way to show a particular software makes it a success or the opposite, and Nintendo seems to be thinking quite cleverly every move they made (by the way, I was impressed how unscathed Reggie continued with the presentation after the technical issues with Zelda: he didn't allow us to keep feeling bad about it and made us understand "hey, dumb head, this is serious bussines, we don't get nervous about things like this because we are sure that what we offer is top notch").

Anyway, I cannot be but anxious and sad about Xenoblade and Last Story. I really need them (and hopefuly Tales of Graces too) to be confirmed for their release in the west.

They have there reasons.

Pariz, I'm also hoping for Xenoblade/Last Story localisation. I'm not sure what Nintendo paid for Monolith Soft, but I expect they'll be wanting some return on their investment, and the majority of the Wii userbase is outside Japan. They'll have to take Xenoblade to the West to get a good profit, I expect. Last Story also seems to be months away from release in Japan, but I also think it's a big investment from Nintendo, they own the IP after all and a couple years back Iwata was talking about having a big RPG series to rival Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

But there's a simple reason why these titles weren't announced during the conference or on the show floor-they'd get lost going up against established and hyped brands like Zelda, the 3DS unveil and of course the return of Donkey Kong Country and Kirby. There's plenty of time for these titles to reappear. Nintendo didn't show Pikmin 3 for fear of it getting overlooked because of other titles. As new IPs, Xenoblade and Last Story need plenty of exposure of their own, away from the shadows of colossi such as Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby and 3DS-not to mention all the other titles exhibited at E3, so that there's plenty of focus on them and not just an afterthought. If they're overlooked at E3 that could be reflected when they come to market-many people would miss out and Nintendo would miss out on sales.
