Well if the 3rd party support so far is any indication, they're willing to let their franchises take a back seat if it means making 3rd parties more comfortable. I imagine there's an element of that to it.  So instead of pulling out PilotWings and Mario Kart (Pilotwings especially has been the biggest E3 news for me) they gave that limelight to 3DS 3rd party developers. 

I imagine this won't be the last time we'll see Nintendo publicly courting 3rd parties and even giving them preference at events. I really hope it's also an indication of Wii2 support.
