Forums - Nintendo - Wii Fit selling out in Japan

I hope that it does sell well. Video games don't have to be about shooting, killing, stealing all the time. Some specific titles like Wii Fit are always welcome.

BUT IF THEIR NOT ABOUT SHOOTING KILLING AND STEALING THEY AM KIDDY!

hmm on the subject of the balance board though I hope third parties integrate it in to more traditional games, it would add another demension of control, plus maybe namco can finally port those skiing arcade games to a home console, after over a decade...

I wonder if anyone else will see the irony if this game outsells Mario Galaxy. This game could actually prove all the negative stereotypes completely and utterly correct. Wii Fit is a game built around a peripheral. That just happens to be a collection of mini games. While Mario is perhaps the best platformer of the year, and we are told repeatedly on these forums that it should be up for game of the year.

I am actually terribly shocked, and would actually be terribly disappointed if this game outperforms Mario Galaxy. Ruminate on the consequences for a moment. Nintendo is going to draw the same conclusion I am going to draw. The market for this console wants mini game compilations, and they love to see packed in hardware. Were you Nintendo what would you start to make more of.

Honestly think for a moment before you guys get excited this could be the worst thing that could happen to this console. This game could establish permanently a rule. That only mini games are big on the Wii. That after all is what sells real well. While the core games cost more to develop and bring in far less. This makes you wonder who Nintendo is going to support. Why make core games when gimmicky mini games can sell your console to just about everyone.

This should concern dedicated gamers. Nintendo the best reason to own a Wii. Has made three mini games for the console that would all be hits. Sports, Play, and now Fit. You can thrown in Mario Party as well. I wonder if this console will ever see another Star Fox, Pilotwings, Waverace, let alone another Mario or Zelda. After all why make them when Wii yoga could bring in three million sales on day one.

I hope the reports are grossly exaggerated. You know if this succeeds Nintendo isn't going to be very dedicated to core gaming in the future.

There success with non-core gamers never stopped Nintendo (and third party developers) from brining core games to the DS ...

The fact of the matter is Nintendo needed to appeal to a much broader group of people than they were with the Gamecube/N64 in order to survive, and now that they've been successful on an unexpected level people are complaining that they decided to appeal to a much broader group of people than they did with the Gamecube/N64.

For the same cost of development of a game like Hevenly Sword, Lair or Ratchet and Clank, Nintendo can make a high profile core game (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Smash Bros, or Mario Kart), a lower profile core game (Battalion wars or Fire Emblem) a party game (Mario Party or Wario Ware) and a "Casual" game (Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wii Fit). For this reason alone I see Nintendo having no problems with their strategy of producing a variety of games for consumers; Sony on the other hand ...

Damn you, HappySqurriel! Using facts and logic will only kill a perfectly good argument.

Oh goodness, have JL posted yet?

So, Wii Fit is selling like hotcakes (Damn gimmicks lovers)...

Some people around here keep saying the same old thing, "Ninty is destroying the videogames as we know it"...

Please people grow up a little, Ninty is taking a different approach and its working, if Sony and MS take the path of the "Expensive video game console/media-center + Big budget games with great graphics" and they are paying for it (Well some developers are paying for it too) don't discharge your anger against Nintendo...

And don't feel threatened... is just another console, which by the way is great...

Now, when does this board balance comes to America??? Because I want it...

No, it's the hypocritical attitude,

Galaxy sells 260k first week:

"How can Mario Galaxy not sell in Japan?!!" "How can they not buy the games I want them to buy?" "Stupid casuals!"

Wii Fit sells out:

"It's teh revolutionz!!!"

Wii crazies need to make up their mind whether they want good games to sell or not.

I want to know if this "quotes" belong to the same person or they came from different users, cause I have seen similar arguments, but not from the same guy...

And yes some people need to make up their minds, but thats something is not going to happen anytime soon...

And about the sales of "those games" well, HappySquirrel posted a list of the games in the Wii with success, all from Ninty, and since all of them are really different and are targeted to differents segments of the market, well, I don't bother of the sales of Wii fit against SMG, since SMG is great game and definitely is not going to be last...

I made the quotes up, they're representative of far more coherent quotes.

They were both said by the same "people".
