Forums - Sony - Sony LCD 3D-TV Gets Disappointing First Look

disolitude said:

Did anyone think LCD was going to be top dog when it comes to 3D? LED's even? I've had a 3D LCD for a year now (22 inch viewsonic 120 hz monitor) and these new TV's have the same limitations as my monitor. The greater the depth the more ghosting you see...

If you want the best 3D display this year Panasonic plasma is your answer...

Sure, you may have to throw away the glasses that come with the TV as they are god awful(they allow way too much light, and purchase Xpand 103 set for 150 a pop...but it is still worth it.

If you want to save money and cant affor the panasonic plasma...Samsung plasma > any LCD when it comes to 3D.

MANY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT DIFFERENCE WOULD THERE BE BETWEEN LCD 3D and Plasma 3D

hope better 3D plasmas can rekindle PLASMA TV and beat LCDS

Assuming 3D takes off.

Plasmas use a lot more electricity than LCDs. I hope LCD makes plasma obsolete.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

I honestly would buy the Panasonic plasma if I was in the market. Its the only diplay that I saw that jumped out at me and looked better than my Samsung 3D DLP. It also could be the movie it was playing... They are not really allowing for a fair comparison in stores since they are playing different things on different TVs. Samsung plasma was playing Monters vs Aliens, Sony is playing chance of meatballs and Wipeout HD videos and Panasonic demo is playing alice in wonderland and sone other #D generated cartoon...forget which one.

Otherwise that Samsung plasma you listed  should be good if its comparable with the PN50C7000 model that I saw them sell here. It seemed slightly worse than the Panny, but it should he 500 bucks cheaper. Advantages samsung has is that it has 2D to 3D conversion, which is othing to brag about but could work nicely with a few games/movies. Also it has much better 3D glasses which are made by Xpand. Pannasonic ones are made by RealD and I honestly dont know what they were thinking.

In other news, Sony is completely gone bonkers in terms of pricing these TVs. This is the pricing of 3D TV's in Canada... Notice the 2 that stick out in terms of price/size ratio?

You saw it at Futureshop at Toronto Life Center or Toronto AMC theatre mall...whatever it is called.
(I am not stalking you), but that one is the best I seen. Given I would give the technology few more years, before picking it up.

Which one is the best u seen? The Panasonic?

I dont wanna wait a "few more years" for 3D tech to mature. U mean the quality of the 3-D and 3-D glasses, right?

I don't see it taking off anytime soon. Heck I still have a standard T.V. lol

It's pretty pointless buying a 3-D TV now.

I will wait atleast 5 years before even consider buying one.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

that's the lowest $2000 model..

the same is said for the lowest samsung model, your topic should have said it's there lower spec 3d tv..

If the shitty unplayable model is 2100 dollars, then that means that these things aren't going to be owned by nearly anyone. Who is going to pay 5000 dollars to play 720P games in 3D with reduced graphics?

Sony came out with this too early, and while it may help them in the long term, for now I bet it's a moneysink. People still don't have HDTVs, and it will be years and years before enough people have enough 3D TVs in order to make it worthwhile to invest in a console that takes advantage of them, IF the 3D gimmick even catches on(it probably will, thanks to the 3DS though, and NOT the PS3.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I agree with your entire post. I think 3D is nothing but a gimmick. What does it really add to the experience? I honestly don't think this will really catch on.

3D will crash and burn and this just supports that idea.
