The only people that watch those are generally the family of the athletes or drunken college students for things like womens college basketball.

Well, the feminine side of almost every sport is quite bad compared to the male side, and that is especially true with football. That being said, the US team had a very nice lady, Alex Morgan was her name if I'm not mistaken

Yes, along with Germany, Norway, Sweden and - more recently - Brazil. The US women's national soccer team won the football World Cup twice and dominated in the 90s.

Well, I clicked on the link and I must say I don't agree with any of those high-brow generalizations.  My theory is that, as a kid, you only need a little space and some friends to play football.  You only need a ball and a hoop to play basketball.  You only need a ball and a bat and a few friends to play baseball.  Who the hell carries around two soccer goals?  The only guy I knew that did that was Soccerball Larry and we always made fun of him for being retarded.

The same reason you need to bring Y goals for American Football. When I played soccer we just used our backpacks or bags. It's a weak theory. All you need is a ball. No hoops like basket ball. I think your just attacking Soccer because of possible supposed reasons?

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

i would go with americans suck at football. that's why they copied rugby and named it football but were too scared so all handegg players have so much safety gear on them you can hardly know that there's a human under all of it. seriously american football players are pussies

that's how you play rugby http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcGNfG6oawI

If you think American football is for wimps, I highly suggest you come try out for a semi-pro team. See what you think after some beefy 300lb black man has made you his woman.

You do need more stamina for Rugby though, and be prepared to take a lot of direct pain with no padding. The size of the players is about the same in boths sports. American football from what I've seen is very stop-start, and more tactical than Rugby. In Rugby, the majority of the 15 players who start go on to play a full and intense 80 minutes, with little to no protection and a lot more running. They'll only get some time off if they're injured or bleeding, and for half-time. American football, is very intense, but in shorter bursts.

The reason Americans are not up to par with other nations with soccer, is that our best athletes go into the other major sports. The reason its not as popular here? Google that Simpsons soccer video, and that tells the tale.

You say that, but the US has some good quality players. Tim Howard is a very good goalkeeper and I was very impressed with Landon Donovan when he played for Everton. We'll see how good tomorrow against England ;)

Wow some nice American hating going on here, always lovely to see.

Anyway, I'd say the reason we don't like soccer is that we just have way too many sports to choose from. From Football, basketball, baseball, Hockey and now the growing popularity of Nascar and lacrosse. Soccer just falls by the wayside.

You do realize Nascar is more popular than Basketball right? Higher attendance and viewership. Actually, even Hockey is more popular.

But I still agree with your point, Soccer's popularity suffers here from the popularity and number of other sports.

Soccer, thats like hockey on grass with no sticks right?

it's just the opposite, man

why do you think that football (I'm talking about soccer) is the most popular sport in some very poor regions (Africa, South America) ? It's just that you don't need anything to play it and the rules are very simple.

I'm not a big fan of football but your point was just so wrong I had to say it
