Super Mario 3 vs Super Mario World

Super Mario 3 54 56.25%

Super Mario World 42 43.75%

Total:96

Nobody here picked Super Mario 4, huh?

Around the Network

I voted for Super Mario Bros. 3. It was my very first game that I got with my NES at the age of 5, and it has been my favourite Mario game ever since. But I still love Super Mario World as well and have had a lot of good times playing through it too.

I have.  Once you get passed Tubular, the rest of those levels aren't so bad.

Super Mario 3:

More levels (I forget the exact number, but it's something like 110-120 levels, versus 96 exits out of 60-70 levels in World)
More items (Tanooki, Frog, Hammer suits, music boxes, clouds, p-wings, etc.)
Kuribo's Shoe (is just awesome, see avatar :D)
Awesome secrets (white mushroom houses, coin ships, etc.)
Better Bowser battle (purely IMO, but I think the Bowser battle in Mario 3 was much more epic than World)

Super Mario World:

Bigger levels
Yoshi (he is pretty awesome)
Better graphics/sound
Save game feature

I vote for Mario 3.  More levels, more items, more secrets... the key word here being more.  It was just more game.  I also thought the themed levels were much cooler in Mario 3.  Desert land, water land, giant land, sky land, ice land... Mario World didn't really do this too much... and the first time I got to giant land was pretty epic.  The biggest flaw with Mario 3 is that, for such an epic game, you really need a save-game feature.

The master himself (Miyamoto) has stated that Mario World wasn't all it could have been, bringing very little new to the table over Mario 3.

In the end they're both awesome games, but my vote goes to #3.

Wrong.

Wrong wrong wrong.

The number of secrets in SMW is mind-boggling compared to SMB3.

OT:

I don't like SMB3 at all and love SMW, so SMW.

Clearly you're not familiar with all of the secrets in SMB3.  On certain levels, if you collected 100% of the coins (not an easy task), you would get a white mushroom house.  This added replay value to the game as well, because it gave you a new goal.

Some levels would turn the hammer bros. into a coin ship if you beat them with the right number of coins and score.

You could use a hammer to break open new areas, such as the boat on world 3 which took you to half a dozen item houses and 1-up games.  Or on world 2 where you could use it to fight the hidden hammer bros. who was keeping the 3rd warp whistle.

Mario World had more hidden exits and stages, but I basically consider them just additional levels I suppose.  But I don't really think that compares to taking the boat out on World 3 to get half a dozen bonuses or having to rush to collect all the coins on a moving stage so you unlock a white mushroom house.

Super mario world is the 2nd best 2-D mario game ever after mario bros wii

Super mario world was so much more creative than than mario 3.  World was crazy and had levels that I never thought were imgenable. the theme worlds of desert and wter and others were boring but that's due to every platformer milking the things these days.

See, I think the complete opposite.  Each world in Mario 3 had its own unique flavor.  Mario World seemed much more generic.  Where was the ice world or the giant world?

Not to mention, if you saw those giant goombas back when SMB3 came out, they were amazing.  And that level where you can walk between normal size and giant size was awesome... not replayed until Mario 64.

Sorry for the Double Post... but Double Post.

I am familiar with every secret in SMB3, ranging from the Warp Whistles to the Hammer Suit.

In SMW, the levels were very well hidden. I mean, look at Cheese Bridge. That exit was insane. Or how about Chocolate Island? Top Secret Area? Star Road? Forest of Illusion?

SMW was bursting at the seams with secrets.

Super Mario Land 2!! God I love that game.

But out of those two, hmm... I guess World.

I beat mario bros 3. I played through the game. The levels are very short. also all the levels are themed.
While in mario world you saw crazy stuff that made you think these people are crazy! Also generic
is only for theme.

While at times mario 3 did fool around. world took a bigger step there. While Mario 3 was orginal in its day. Its hasn't age well. Every platformer these days have all those levels expect a few like
fire, ice, water and air world. Mario 3 felt stale to me while mario world had many diffrent ideas it was awsome
