basically this is the 360's last chance to hold second, if this fails ps3 will overtake it easily, if not then it will take a couple more years for ps3 to overtake them, seriously who said it would be game over for sony, they are bringing lots of games, where are the games for 360??

The 360 has a great lineup of games coming out, like Gears 3, Fable 3, Crackdown 2, Halo Reach, and many other top tier games, arguably better than the PS3 lineup. You don't know what you're talking about. :P

gears isn't this year

abt SONY not having anything

GT5

AGENT

FF14

FF13 VERSUS

LBP

and all those recently announced sequels

I dont care much for the boxes but they will probably grow on me like the new PS3 boxes did.   As for the rebranding,  I think the only way they can be successful with it is to get rid of the ring of lights completely and use a different setup.   All it would take is a few pictures of the new console with a RROD to surface and the stigma is back and one of the purposes of the rebranding fails.

Also if the 360 starts going ahead of the Wii, Nintendo could drop the price. Really Selnor, the only way you're ideas could come true is if Microsoft start making losses and both Sony and Nintendo stand absolutely still.

M$ hasnt dropped the price for a year. With new cheaper to make model coming M$ are in a fantastic position to drop the price without a loss.

Thing is I think Natal will captivate the casuals. Thats where I believe the sales will come from.

- Natal R&D and Production costs

- Natal will probably be sold at a loss

- Slimmer model R&D costs

- Huge marketing costs for both Natal and Slim model

- Slim won't be that much cheaper to produce, they will have to make it of higher quality that the normal 360's to fix faults such as the RROD

RROD already fixed with Jasper model, Slim would be MUCH cheaper to produce by shrinking and combining cpu/gpu to one chip, less cooling needed, less casing materials, smaller mobo, no more memory card slots, etc.

- Microsoft has already lost a lot of money this gen

...Really?

MS has been posting huge profits the last few quarters even in the EDD where Xbox 360 is and even with Natal and Slim R&D going on.

not huge but good profits

the best thing to launch NATAL would be to take out a new XBOX

How do you know Jaspers have fixed RROD?

I mean I never heard of YLOD until a year and a half after the PS3 launch.

I smell....insecurity.

Don't worry guys.  Neither MS or Sony are gonna fail with their consoles, they both will end up having amazing games.

It has been a year and a half after the first Jasper 360s appeared at retailers and they "fixed" RROD so far.

However RROD itself is not fixable and should not be fixed, because it's just an error report.

I could say all PS3s will fail before the gen is over and you could not prove me wrong until this point of time. Yet the PS3 is considered to be a reliable console, so why aren't the new 360s reliable as well ?

A few things SolidSnake:

1. I never said or believe that the 360 will outsell the Wii this gen, I don't think I implied it, but if I did, it was a mistake.  I certainly don't believe that.

2. I didn't say Sony didn't have any games coming out, I said the libraries were arguable and comparable. I also didn't specify a year, I don't think.

3. I asked you to make a bet. I believe that you are biased, and you are letting said bias, cloud your judgement, thus, it will be an easy win for me.

4. I'm basing all of my assumptions upon a REDESIGN, not a rebranding, and I believe it is obvious that it will be successful.

5. My bet would be, that if MS announces a new redesigned console with a rebranding, for a price of 299 or less bundled with Natal, then it will outsell the PS3 WW cumlitively for the rest of the year starting the week it launches lasting until Jaunuary 1st 2011. That's not week vs week, that's total sales from the beginning of that week until January 1 2011.

I would wager my sig space, or lack thereof, for 1 month, starting January 5th 2011, against yours with the same parameters.

If that doesn't happen the bet is off.

If it does, then it's on, and one of us pays.

What say you?

I think that the redesign of the 360 combined with Natal and Reach will have a relatively large impact on console sales(not as much as a 100 dollar price cut maybe, but large), and I think that is obvious. If you don't, then take my bet.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I am unable to determine Sony's market value. In 2007 is was approximated 52 billion according to Gamespot.

MS, currently in a 7 month low, is currently worth 222 billion approximately.

:P
