You know that an internet expression is over-used when you hear someone in RL using it in a whole different language:

Me:  Claudia, deixaste cair o rato do teu pc (Translation: Claudia, you dropped your PC's mouse)
Her: LOL, a serio? (Translation: LOL, really?)

-_-

 True story?

Yup, my GF uses LOL a lot of time, without any form of context at all since it doesn't fit anywhere near a phrase said in portuguese.

It sounds even stupider in Hebrew =/

I believe you >_< There are some things that shouldn't ever be used outside their natural language.

That's nothing. Did you ever hear somebody say "pwning noobs"?

Never :| In what context would someone even say that in another language? >_<

In the "I play too much Halo" context, of course.

Yeah but in Hebrew.. how?!

"Ani ochel mechonim pwning noobs."

I'm eating wut?

I forgot exactly how he said it, but he was talking about his friends and him dominating the game.

lol has actually lost its meaning. lol can just mean agreement with something, what it actually stands for, or happiness like you stated. People use it to lighten up their posts so it doesnt look like they are raging.

I CAN TYPE THIS lol and it goes from angry sounding joyful, and for someone who reads text as if it has emotion justifying the feel your post should be read as makes sense on a forum where hundreds of people read your replies. You dont want them to feel like all you do is yell at people do you? lol

If I actually laugh, I type "LOL"

"lol" is an acknowledgement of what somebody has said, or else a word added to signify that you are joking and thereby avoid a ban for trolling/flaming.

it gets worse when you say it in a conversation with someone ha ha

but yeah i agree with one of the above posts, it has lost its meaning, I use it when someone says something thats makes me smile when i agree with them, I don't actually laugh
