Hey guys. When FFXIII came out, I was still studying for exams so I didn't really play much of it. I did manage to get to Chapter 10 during one weekend after going through the tedious linear parts in the other chapters and was glad to see that it seemed to be more open-world now. With that said, because of studies and stuff, I had to stop playing and set my priorities straight. Sadly, when I stop playing a game for more than a month or two, especially a RPG, I tend to forget most of the previous events and what I have to do in the part I am at right now.

So here I am now, on summer vacation, deciding if I should give the game another shot. I usually don't like to load a previous save file when I know that I have loads of time to invest on a specific game, like now... so I'll kind of have to restart the game. I just really don't want to do all the linear chapters though. It was so boring and it felt like everything happened so quickly and all the important plot events were just thrown at my face immediately without really going far enough into character development during the in-game cutscenes (I had to read the Datalog to finally understand the Purge and the 13 Days thing... I mean what the hell kind of storytelling is that in a JRPG!!).

My big question is this: is the game worth playing past Chapter 10? Or is it more of the same linear stuff from previous chapters? I just don't want to waste my time. :/

It's worth your time. Everyone I know liked the game once it got the open world part of it. If you aren't going to do anything with your summer vacation, then at least replay FFXIII. After all, I'm even gonna replay SA2: Battle and I hated that game.

If you're on chapter 10 you're very close to the game opening up. I'd say stick with it, chapter 11 is a welcome change of pace.

Wow am I glad to hear you guys say that! Now my expectations are very high right now.

It is pretty good, at your point I would want to finish the story.

Nope, story was crap, then again so was almost every other JRPG this gen, even RoF in the end didn't end up being epic,

I gave up and I'm on chp 12. I hate the game with a passion. However, if I do go back to the game, it would be for the story.

I would keep my expectations low if I were you.

why does everybody keep saying FF13 opens up in ch11? no it doesnt, i mean areas get bigger but theres nothing to do other than do what yuo been doing the whole intire game just fight after fight after fight..even the sidequest are just more fighting.
