Forums - Gaming - Has Final Fantasy VII not aged well?

I wonder how some of those wacko parents will react when they find out you start off as a terrorist.

Depends how they do the remake... I'm more interested in new content then playing through the same old stuff.

You know what, I never thought about that. o_O

And yeah, I think the game didn't age well at all. There's just something weird about playing a backdrop-based game with blocky characters on big TVs or computer screens nowadays...!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Also, what a coincidence because I was playing that game just yesterday! I think I'll wait for the PSN release then.

(Sorry for double posting, the edit button doesn't work for some reason)

I will have to say it aged fairly well place it alongside its immediate contemporaries, i still play it on my 47 inch tv from time to time. that vast open expanse the story that you can engage when you want after you get out of midgar, and the battle system and graphics show where the future was and stand now as a proud guide to understanding the 2d to 3d transition. sure there are alot of ruff edges but its stood the test of time a hell of a lot better then most early 3d games.

this game sits in aline with the altime best in my archive games i still love to play mario kart, super Mario brothers 3, halo:ce, C&C,

the whole idea of something not aging well to me means something we can not enjoy playing today weather its been a year or 15. FF VII has done that

we also have to look at FFVII as a portal for 2d gamers to what 3d would bring, hell i had not wanted to upgrade from my snes until i played ffVII it showed me something starfox had not it showed me a future where stories and game play can be imersive and more at the gamers control.

the only game that has not aged well that i used to love is the original star fox, and thinking back to it the only reason i became good and spent so much time on the game is there was no money for other new games.

Sure your characters look really deformed when you walk around (the hands mostly) but that's not why I love FFVII so it doesn't bother me one bit. It even adds to the charm, I wouldn't want to see a cross-dressed Cloud in HD but it looks funny in it's current form.

This game is to be enjoyed for the story and most of all the battle system.

Edit: I also could easily live without a remake. (Although I'd probably buy it if they made one)

Agreed.

So many of you are out of your bloody minds. FFVII has aged horribly? Shit, I played the game for the first time in 2004 and it was one of the best gaming experiences of my entire life. Then I played it a second time last summer and it consumed my life for 2 months. I played FFVII over Killzone 2 and inFamous.

I don't even understand the "bad grafx!" comments, I still appreciate its style far more than many games released just this generation.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

I played the game for 15 hours on PSN. The game does not seem to have aged very well. The pacing is spotty, the dialog and localization passable at best, god awful at worst, battle system is not bad but is fairly tedious and the graphics including CGI have aged poorly.

I played it during the 2009 summer, it was amazing.. even with its PS1 visuals

At the time it was revolutionary

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

It has not played well at all.

We love to say graphics don't matter, but that doesn't mean we like things to look bad. Final Fantasy VII just plain looks terrible. It didn't look good when it came out and it looks horrible on the eyes now. Compare it to something like Final Fantasy VI with beautifully painted backgrounds and hand drawn sprites and it just looks even worse.

I get the technology was new then, but just because you have it doesn't mean you should rush out and use it. FFVII was really just an awful looking game.

As for the gameplay, it's traditional JRPG people have played time and time again with a story that isn't even that good and characters that are just boring.

Really, the only people that tout it as the greatest game of all time are just the ones that are saying it for the nostalgic factor or the ones that think they're supposed to say that because it's cool to have a crush on Cloud or Sephiroth.
