The PS3 at 126k is also a lot higher than a lot of people were expecting. A lot of people, including you if i remember correctly, thought it would be "impossible" for it to sell so well... Even expecting it to be neck and neck with the 360.

OT:
Hardware numbers are boring this time of year. Software is where the fun is at!

Who thought that the PS3 be impossible for the PS3 to sell 126K in a week this year?

Not that it wouldn't be selling 126k in a week this year. That it would be outselling the 360 by so much.

Carl you said the PS360 gap on average would be 100K during 2010 so ROFL

I can't believe you said that last holidays.

Did I miss something? I thought you two were getting along fine, so why are you stabbing him in the back?

He was responsible for me spending 40 days in the prison in the Nintendo Fan Squad thread, this is my revenge, now we'r even.

To top it off imagine the shame when I found out the jail door was NEVER LOCKED in the first place!

You don't need to have an excuse, blame the post slim sales mania

the sales seemed so good then I thought PS3 would never dip below 150K & at one point I even thought 200K

The PS3 sales now aren't disappointing (the YOY sales comparison proves that) but they are not as amazing as they were in the fall.

We are just lucky crazzyman wasn't there

WTF? here we go with the xbox vs ps3 again...

If I can recall back in JAN during ME2 release week X360 came close(20k gap) to ps3 that week and the same taunting "PS3 and 360 gap are going down fast!" happened then after that week ps3 went back outselling 360 by quite a margin(specially GOW3 and heavy rain week) the taunting stoped.

360 was below 100k and was getting outsold by 40k+ just a few weeks ago I didn't see any1 discussing it,and now 360 gets a bit of boost from RED DEAD/Alan wake were back at the "PS3 and 360 weekly GAP is going down fast" argument.....

OT:Good sales for all but I was expecting a little more boost on HD console from red dead this week....oh well.

while you are thinking... this does put you pretty squarely in the 200k to 250k minimum every week this year you know...

Not really. But close.

I mean, the 360 has dropped, and will again in a couple of week... Below 100k

190k club FTW!

I thought the PS3 - 360 gap might drop into the 30k level... but its actually down to 26k now.

YOY

Wii down 38k 18%
360 down 2k 2%
PS3 up 32k 35%

I am convinced the 360 will have a better 2010 than 2009... despite the doom and gloom merchants here.

This week XB360 had huger releases than both PS3 and Wii, but while it kept better than Wii YoY, it was nevertheless a little bit down and a lot worse YoY than PS3. And regarding sales numbers it was last of home consoles. If it takes having the biggest releases to XB360 to achieve this, well, then we could extrapolate that also in Q4, getting the best releases it will be able to achieve around -2% YoY.

It will do better than that, but I wouldn't conclude it from this week.

I diagree... heres why

The 360 has had a slow start to the year software wise and yet it is only down around 3% YOY YTD...  Thats a good performance imo.

And of course its worse than PS3... what did you expect? Its sales at this point last year were the lowest so its bound to be up. Come August that flips...  The PS3 at 126k is a lot lower than quite a few here thought would be the minimum weekly sales level this year.

Let me start admitting a thing. I don't know whether I ever wrote it, but during Q4 2009 I often thought PS3 wouldn't have dropped under 150k during 2010, although I'm never 100% sure about anything, nor I totally wazs even back then.

This said, here you're trying to mix a truth with a thing less true to make the latter pass: it's totally true that going up YoY from a previous meh sales performance isn't difficult, but it's just the norm when you finally do things right. But it's also true that last years's XB360 performance in this period was by no means stellar, so it was expected too to rise, considering the big SW releases it had this week. So judging from this week shouldn't bode well for XB360 next Autumn. Why I'm not pessimistic anyway, then? Because XB360 is expected to have some more or less big and significant renewal and this should remove at least some reasons for the current sluggish performances. But getting good omens from this very week, really no, I can't do it.

I notice that, generally, console sales are lacking all around at the moment. I mean, even Wii is sub-200k.

Perhaps some exterior factors are affecting the performance of all the consoles.
