Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3 Reasons Why Super Mario Galaxy 2 Doesn't Deserve 10s

@wagram
You played the game... and you think 70% of the music id from the original? Good day to you, Sir.

While there probably is not such thing as a perfect game, based on these criticisms I'd give it a 9.5 to 9.7. Not a whole point down to 9, that's just ridiculous.

thank you for showing me the light now i will not buy the game... NOTT!!!

your post wont even make a difference so why write it even :P

Does really a thread like this is still relevant? It's only a purpose to make people (Wagram) come here to say again the game doesn't deserve any 10 at all.

Well, 10 exists. It's a number. If it was a number for perfection, no games would have earned it. Because perfection is inexistant in this world. Mario Galaxy 2 is a great game, it deserves the great review. I don't think the 10 means it's perfect in every way. But it's still a score that shows you that this game distance to other one, that this adventure is as good as the first and improved in a certain way. Sure, it doesn't have the same impact, but that would make the relevance of sequels invalid. But we need sequels to build upon the precedent experiment and gave again the player something extraordinary.

The bank of Star Bits is IMO a great clever addition, and with the interest too. The postman Toad is more useful than it was in Galaxy 1. I love when the Starship Mario gathers more and more people on your way. I love the World Map, the level design is better than the first, visuals are more stunning than the first, the soundtrack is as awesome as the first, if not more, the story at the end is well-driven (I wasn't expecting it) and I love Lubba.

So, following what Wagram said, it deserves a 9.9 and Galaxy 1 a 9.8. Because Galaxy 2 is in every aspect superior than its predecessor, and the impact should not be a critera of evalutation because makes sequels irrelevant. The review system is flawed to give 10. 10 should not exist, it's an unworthy number!

I don't care if you make me out to be the bad guy. I just tell it how it is. I knew this was going to happen because you Nintendo fanboys are blind as hell and can't see the truth.

I will say and it and continue to say it: COPY AND PASTE. NOT A 10!

Good Game: Yes:

Perfect 9.1-10 game: NO.

You did that yourself.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. FFVIII comes to mind.

I don't know if anyone has brought this up yet (I'm not going to read all five pages of this, I mean come on) but a 10 doesn't always mean perfect, and not all critics score games the same. not only that but not all of those perfect 10's you seen on Metacritic are in fact 10's, some of them are 4 stars out 4 or five out of five, that metacritc will score as 100. IGN and game informer (GI didn't give it a 10 I'm just using them as an example) will on occasion give out their highest score (a 10), but that doesn't make the games perfect, and Gamepro will often give out 5 out 5's but still list complaints in Cons side notes. but a magazine like PC gamer uses a scoring system that goes up to 100 and they have only given out that score once (that I have heard of, or maybe they never have I haven't PC gamed in a while) the general rule is the more degrees of score the critic uses thar harder it is to get that full score.

@ The people who think I wrote that argument

I DIDN'T write that. This is an article from a site I found. I just thought I would share it with you all. Goodness, you people need to pay attention. All you guys do is complain.

9.5 for me. My main problem has been the CAMERA, it works sometimes and sometimes does not.

This was a well-thought-out article, actually. I haven't seen too much copy and pasting of bosses, aside from the mecha-beetles, but i'm only 30 stars in. As it stands the lives system is rather pointless, but it could be made relevant again by tweaking. Start with a set number of lives at the beginning of the level (say three), and you could get 1ups in the course of the level, and get 1ups outside the levels, but only apply for the next level you do (so you get a letter with 2 and start the stage with 5). Game-over within the level to void checkpoint progress would be the only way to make them relevant again.

I'll agree on the missing overworld. It could have been good.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I saw no article like this when GTAIV got all the perfect 10's.

Becauuse GTA 4 wasn't made by NIntendo.

It has nothing to do with Nintendo. Nintendo is getting called out for being lazy and copy and pasting their games. Seriously do we need to same music, characters, stars, animations in EVERY GAME? I mean come on?

WHAT A TWIST! Mario said "HERE WE GOOO!!!"

Why wasn't Naughy Dog called out for Copy Pasting Uncharted to make Uncharted 2? They even have the unchanged title music, at least Mario Galaxy spiced it up.

Why Wasn't Epic Games called out for copy pasting Gears of War 2?

Why Wasn't Insomniac called out for copy pasting Ratchet and Clank?

Halo 3?

Modern Warfare 2?

Lost Planet 2?

Left 4 Dead 2?

Heck some of these games go so far as to charge you for maps you bought in the previous game!

As you read through my post and try to come up with reasons why these games weren't copy pasted, you have answered why Mario Galaxy 2 wasn't copy pasted.

Don't be an idiot. This isn't just about a song in the game. By the way Mario SMG2 soundtrack uses over 75% of songs from previous games.

hey wagram guy stop hatin around here

you dont know anything about super mario galaxy 2

Yes, beating the game is now knowing nothing about the game.

You didn't beat the game, your game collection shows a clear inclination towards RPGs and not even one Mario game and barely any games with platforming elements are in your collection. We have no reason to believe that you have bought it, played it to the fullest extent (in a short time period I might add) and have judged it quickly to be just a rehash.

I have not played it either, but I do know from the general consensus that SMG2 is not just a "Copy-and-Paste" of SMG. Otherwise the reviews would not be as high as they are and it would instead pan the game for being a repeat. No review has taken points off of SMG2 for being more of the same.

You are trolling, that is not respectable in this forum.

and also GTA4 is not a 9.8/10 game either. But hey at least they didn't copy and paste EVERYTHING from the previous games.

"EVERYTHING"? ... really?

i mean this post right here is a clear measurement of how many seconds a person should spend listening to what YOU have to say. the answer is ZERO
