Forums - Sales - CNBC: 310,000 Xbox 360 consoles sold in the U.S last week

The NPD report will be...interesting. Especially if they didn't track Toys R Us for the Wii stuff.

Meanwhile Sony & Microsoft have a "who spun their numbers best" contest.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

13,4 million Xbox 360 in the world

posted the 29/11/2007 to 17:14
Microsoft benefits from this Thursday to announce, via a press release, some figures in connection with the sales of consoles and plays Xbox 360. Thus, according to the manufacturer, they are 13,4 million specimens of Xbox 360 which were sold of share the world, while the ratio of plays by machine reaches 6,3. Unfortunately, no statistics as for the sales in Europe, just know one thanks to the NPD Group that 7,5 million Xbox 360 was past in the United States, while they would be 450 000 in Japan according to Media Create. There would thus remain approximately 5,5 million consoles Xbox 360 sold in Europe, a figure impossible to check since no statistics enable us to know it precisely.

Just saw this on CNBC's Power Lunch in a report about melting 360's and their class action lawsuit. According to them the 360 sold 310,000 units in the US, outsold the PS3 2 to 1, and 360 software outsold PS3 and Wii software combined.

Hopefully the video will be up on the website soon.

Okay, but does vgchartz get information from either TRU or Wal-Mart?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Don't know, but at least VGC is willing to adjust when their data is off

Update, 12:30 p.m.: Sony is disputing Microsoft's statement about the ratio of Xbox 360 to PS3 sales. Here's what Kimberly Otzman, a Sony spokeswoman, said in an e-mail just now:

"It's (Sony Computer Entertainment America) policy not to disclose our unit sales numbers until NPD numbers are officially released which will be December 13th. However, I can assure you that Microsoft's estimates of our PS3 unit sales numbers are way off and they did not outsell PS3 2:1 during Black Friday week."

Bullshit. Just two weeks ago they said they sold 100,000 PS3 units. Since when is it their policy to never disclose any unit sales before NPD does? They just don't disclose it when it would make them look bad, so they use percentages to fool people. I love liars, they keep everybody on their toes.

From article: Sources: Microsoft earnings report, disclosing 13.4 million unit sales through Sept.; Nintendo earnings report (PDF) showing 13.2 million units sold through Sept.; e-mail from Sony spokesman, reporting 5.6 million sales to date. Note: Reports based on other data have shown the Wii already taking the lead.
