Just to add to the discussion, you know goalposts and stuff need to be defined.

Definition of flop:

2.To fail completely, not to be successful at all (about a movie, play, book, song etc.).
The latest album flopped and so the studio canceled her contract.

OT: So how can anyone say that the game flopped in Japan? Did we hear from SE, yet? Only they can truly say if the game flopped or not. I believe depending on the parameters one looks at, it sold well.

I'm a videogamer, not a fanboy, but have a special place for Nintendo.

Current Systems Owned: NSwitch/PS4/XONE/WiiU/3DS/2DS/PCGaming Rig-i7/ASUS i7 Gaming Laptop.

Previous Game Consoles:  PS3/Xbox360/Wii/DSL/Pretty much every one thats been released since the Atari 2600.

It sold as expected. It didn't sell well, but it didn't sell badly either.

Nowhere in that post did he say anything about the 360. But I'll take the initiative, since you seem to get worked up from out of nowhere. Based on Metacritic:

FFVII: 92

FFXVIII: 90

FFIX: 94

FFX: 92

FFXII: 92

FFXIII: ......83 (82 on the 360 version and only an 80 on GameRankings)

I'm going to say it was rated lower based on game design changes and gameplay elements that didn't ring with traditional FF fans. But from a pure bystander POV, you see that since 1997, it's the lowest rated one, and also the only multiplatform one, so...............

(oh, and I didn't include X-2 because that was simply fan service riding off the success of X, and many of the assets in X were reused in X-2)

Given kingofwale's posting history, the implications of that post, the fact he didn't respond when I asked him directly, and there have been numerous threads about FF13 sucking due to the 360, he pretty much said that "FF13 sucks due to the 360".

Also... you're ripping on FF13 for what reason?

I never said it was bad or good (I think it's good), but I'm just annoyed since some people are thinking FF13 was lackluster due to the 360.

A flop is typically judged by Revenue - Development Cost - Marketing cost, and I highly doubt that selling near to 2 million in Japan resulted in a flop. Is it the worse selling mainline Final Fantasy in Japan (maybe so), however it did not flop....

ACEVIL,it might not have been  a flop from technical standpoint but if you take into account what AKIBAFAN means here then it makes some sense

What you are not understanding is the fact that FFXIII was not sold for The PS1 or the PS2.

FF10 wasn't released on a 100m PS2 userbase but on a 20m userbase so don't even start that argument here

akiba is just rying to say according to the hype,expectations and name at the start of this gen,it was a let down

thnk u for defnding me. FF13 ddnt sell like a first FF of the gen FF in jpn, due to this worldwide sales for it luk less impressive thn they shud because in west it is seling like the first ff of a gen, jpn let the game down

in comparisn to wht was expcted of it in jpn it did flop. quality wise i hve no complaints, its a amazing game bt sales wise we must accept being the lowest selling ff in jpn isnt gud at all, its horrible.

i hope others understood me like u did solid snake 4RD.

Pretty much this.  Underperformed a bit in Japan, did a little better than expected in Europe, nice American launch but terrible legs.  Overall it seems to be about what everyone (sane) predicted though.

many people din't mean it was because of 360 but you tought they did

 

another thin as the gen progresses the standards of game increases,so many tought that a game of quality of 2008 launch was released in 2009-2010 year which compared to current standards fell

not that 360 made that happen,just that they took an year to put it on 360 to the 2008 level of PS3 but they should have also made improvements in both versions to bring them to 2009-10 quality levels is what many meant
