does anyone else agree with me when i say PS3 would have been better off without BD? the ports wouldn't be terrible and it would cost a lot less to manufacture.

Seeing that there are almost 10x the amount of Blu Ray players out there, HD DVD is kicking ass with 1/3 of all HD films sold. I didnt know they were doing that well.
Either way this "war" wont be decided until players are
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I think that it means what timeframe you are considering blackhawk, if you are talking about the present situation, then yes I definitely think that the add-on cost is way too much for most gamers to want, b/c BD just isn't big right now. But at the same time, I definitely expect BD's popularity to grow, and if so, then consumers will value a BD drive a lot more as time goes on, hopefully enough to make the PS3 a lot more popular.
I also think that the other advantage that the PS3 has in letting it put a game in the BD format as opposed to DVD will help out a lot. It helps having high-def games with more levels and more everything.
Thanks to kenobi after I got him to ban my old account (dallas) after someone hacked into it and being ok with me coming back under a slightly different username. I appreciate our communication in the PMs. Also I want to give a big thank you to vgchartz for being one of the cooler websites around.

This format war is far from decided ...
Blu-Ray has an advantage because every PS3 comes with a 'free' Blu-Ray player and currently the PS3 is outselling all other HD-Movie players by a wide margin; and HD-DVD has an advantage because the players are already $200 and will be $100 by next Christmas.
Both formats have until (about) January 1st 2009 to produce a killing blow to the other format (PS3 sales match Wii sales, or HD-DVD players gain interest in the general public) otherwise we are heading for a dual format world ...
I just want a format to win, so I can have a format that is accepted and I know that movie companies will back it.

First of all, amount of space it can hold has nothing to do with whether or not it is inferior. Second of all, the current discs only hold 50 gb and they are not even close to getting to 100, let alone getting to 200. The fact is that the HD-DVD players have more features at a cheaper price... |
This is a funny thing..... BLU-RAY HAS 100GB DISC and there on there way on probly making a 200 later on in the future
This format war kind of feels like one of those games that you are winning and winning so well that you want the game to continue....even though your opponent just wants to quit playing b/c the game ain't going their way.

Except that, if anything, PS3 games have been criticized for being shorter than comparable games on other systems due to the cost of creating said levels.

The format war seems to have some sort of huge future value to Sony and Toshiba. After all, the BD was a big reason for the 1 year delay of the PS3 and the 'five hundred and ninety nine dollars' price tag.
The Blu-Ray defenders are a joke...
Lets wait to see what actual HD format sales are this Christmas. 750k for HD-DVD sounds real weak to me, but I wonder what actual standalone Blu-Ray player sales are? Who cares about PS3 sales: thats like arguing that there were an additional 150 million DVD players last gen because of the X360 and PS2's DVD capabilities.....Not everyone likes using (or has good succuess) using consoles as media players. I know my X360, and my Girlfriend's PS2 are horrid DVD players.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
