Y'know....
When this is all said and done, if the PS3 eventually passes the Xbox360 by about 250k to definitely put it over the top in sales, what will Sony have earned to warrant the cost?
A broken brand name. A wave of more exclusives? Sudden profitability for once? What about their outlooks on next-gen; is the grass suddenly greener then? All the fighting, the PR, the studio purchases, motion-control integration, compatibility issues, redesigns, and firmware nightmares....
If it outsells the 360, more power to Sony, but for the future, I'd be really afraid for them.
Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. " thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Why be afraid for their future?
The gap between XBox 360 and PS3 will be over 6 million by March 2011.
You have forgotten the 360 is going to kick butt over the PS3 in the last quarter of this year and equal PS3 in consoles sold in 2010. 12 million sold for both 360 and PS3 in 2010.
PS3 will not have the sales momentum of a PS3 Slim launch and 25% reduction in price like it jhad last year. PS3 is a short space released Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII exclusive in Japan, PS3 version of FFXIII sold more in Europe and NA than 360, COD: MW 2(also on 360 and PC) and Heavy Rain. 360 only had Mass Effect 2 released in the same period and no price cuts.
360 price cuts + Natal launch + Halo: Reach. 360 has a bigger second half of the year games list than the PS3. Crackdown 2, Fable 3 and Halo: Reach. Gears of War 3 launches in March 2011- the month you believe the PS3 will overtake the 360. hmmmm.
I would not hold your breath on another PS3 Price cut or Gran Turismo 5 launch in 2010.
Most likely the PS3 will not overtake the 360 in total sales until 2013. Gilgamesh will be proven to be way off with his sales prediction. 2 years off the mark. For the sake of competition let's hope that the 360 stays in front of the PS3 in total sales.
What do you win if you actually get this sales prediction right?

So then what are your end of 2010 predictions exactly based on? That must be quite different scenario you have there...
victor40,
Wasnt that numox end of 2010 predictions?
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
This thread is based upon the theory that 360 sales will continue to decline, but what did it take for the PS3 sales to pick up. Price cut with system redesign.
"IF" the 360 does in fact get a system redesign as we've been hearing about due to the new mother board with price cut then I can't see how the PS3 will over take it in 2011.
a 360 with no RROD might actually get those that have been holding off to finally buy one also.
Natal might just be a super hit or a super bomb, but with the right marketing push with a huge advertisement budget it might sell. Don't get me wrong, Sony will try also with move but they are in a spot were they will be pointed at as a Wii-too and a lot might just not even bother. So that might bomb also. Lot of speculation but this is all personal thoughts, hey we're turning into Patcher.
this E3 will be interesting.

I made those sales predictions at the start of the year. 4 and a half months later I have had a change of heart in regards to the sales predictions. 360 will start to outsell the PS3 in the last 3 months of the year when Halo: Reach + Natal + Price cuts come into effect towards the end of the year. 360 should be around 5.5 million in front of the PS3 by the end of the year. The PS360 gap will fall to 4.3 million and the 360 will claw back 1.2 million on the PS3 in the final quarter of 2010.
The 360 will regain most or all of the early console sales losses to the PS3 first 9 month of 2010. The last 3 months will be decisive one way or the other. PS360 gap anywhere between 3 million and 5.5 million for end of 2010. Black Friday in America should favour the 360 over the PS3 with Natal expected to be a sales hit. MS have invested a lot more into Natal than Sony have invested into Move.
I am hoping the sales momentum can change again between the 360 and PS3. Keep the console sales war alive.
It's possible I suppose. But we'll have to wait and find out. Natal or Move could be a big thing. or they both can be overlooked. Right now we just don't know. But one thing is for sure. MSFT needs to do something quickly because their console is selling under 100k WW a week now!
