When this is all said and done, if the PS3 eventually passes the Xbox360 by about 250k to definitely put it over the top in sales, what will Sony have earned to warrant the cost? A broken brand name. A wave of more exclusives? Sudden profitability for once? What about their outlooks on next-gen; is the grass suddenly greener then? All the fighting, the PR, the studio purchases, motion-control integration, compatibility issues, redesigns, and firmware nightmares.... If it outsells the 360, more power to Sony, but for the future, I'd be really afraid for them. |
By increasing market share and coming 2nd
- Increases user base, so more software can be sold, and more potential profit can be made on this.
- Bigger user base also increases the chances of the loyalty consumers for the PS4
- Media wise, it's quite a big publicity tool to use.
- They are profiting on PS3 atm, by cutting the price small bits at a time, they won't be losing that much in comparison of what they have. Software could also make up for this.
What they've earned this gen
- Experience, I guarantee you there won't be a £500 launch PS4. PS4 will also be easier to develop for.
- A host of new 1st Party studios, and developed studios. Games on the PS4 are already looking good.
Why be afraid for their future?
- Made it through the recession
- Will obviously have intentions to be more profitable with the PS4.
- Brand name is still stronger than 'Xbox.' Still incredibly strong.
- It's a significant part of Sony's business, they won't be going no where.
- What's the chances of them failing financially twice in a row, after 3 amazing to moderate successes?
