Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo needs to make a Mario Universe FPS as a new IP

FPS is the top genre of this video game generation.  Nintendo has dabbled a little bit with Metroid Prime Corruption, but I would really like to see a Nintendo-themed FPS with great online multiplayer options.

Imagine a Nintendo FPS that uses many of the same characters in Super Smash Bros.  This game could be a huge hit.

The characters in the game would shoot fruit, vegetables, or paint instead of real ammo and each each character could have their own signature moves such as the morph ball of Samus.  The characters could be roughly divided into brute strength characters such as Donkey Kong, speedy characters such as Luigi, and sniper characters.  If Nintendo spent some time and made a good leveling up system, this game could be the most fun FPS ever.

I doubt Nintendo would do this game, but I could easily forsee it selling more than 5-10 million copies.

Thoughts?

It wouldn't sell unless it used real guns, and Nintendo would never do it with real guns.

Its a fun idea though.

It wouldn't attract anyone with a Nintendo Character behind it. Mario doesn't use guns.

how is it a new IP if it has mario in the title?

Mario uses every tool.  He uses a water gun in Super Mario Sunshine.

There are creative solutions to this problem.  It could be a paintball game or a foodfight or some other idea.  I do agree that it is not likely though.

It woud be a new IP in the same sense that Super Smash Bros was a new IP when it was first released.

It would be more of a new form of gameplay than a completely new IP.

if they made that i would be very interested. If its fun and accessible to casuals it could easily be a big hit. SSBB has guns so I could see some characters just use full on guns, although the more unique weapons would be more interesting.

That was not a water gun. That was a water dispenser to clean the oil.

"fps shooters are the top genres of this generation"
