America: Homophobia & Racism

Black people 9 10.23%

Gay people 63 71.59%

Equal 4 4.55%

I'm having a debate with Machina about who (some, overall, NOT everyone duh) Americans tolerate the LEAST. (i.e is there more homophobia or more racism?)

Gay people or Black people.

Obviously homophobia and racism exists in all countries, but he was surprised a gay guy came 2nd in American Idol and I said it was more surprising a black man got elected president.

Oh, definitely gay people. There's no law stopping black people from getting married, for one. Christians don't frown upon black people. Racist hate crime is pretty much non-existent. I mean, just look at VGC. It's perfectly acceptable to say that you believe homosexuality is wrong (as in, not bannable), but you can't exactly say that being black is wrong, can you?

True, religion is accepting of black people. I don't think VGC is a good platform for anything, there are a LOT of gay topics around, bound to piss people off.

Definitely gay people.

Gays make up a much, much smaller group than blacks. It's easier to discriminate against them (due to their small numbers) and harder for them to publicly defend themselves (among a variety of other reasons).

I'm gonna say gay people, based solely off of an episode of Top Gear I once watched! Anyone else see that?

I was at the democratic election party 2008 in Texas when Obama was elected. From that alone, gay people

America as a whole, Gay people get more persecution because of Christianity. Most Christians(not counting some Southerns like my grandparents) view African Americans as their equals. Gays, however, are viewed by many Christians almost as a disease. It is really bad how gays are treated.

This week, one of my friend's brother was killed in Iraq. He was as straight as can be, but there were protesters from Westboro "Baptist" Church were are his funeral protesting against gays being in the war.

However, this is an unfair question due to the fact that African Americans had their civil rights in the 60s. If it were African Americans in the 60s vs. Gays now, African Americans win by a long shot, but at the present moment, gays are being more ridiculed.

I chose gay people, only because American law's are pretty tough on their lifestyle, a lot of Christian's despise them and the violence toward's them can be pretty bad sometimes.

I was originally going to choose Arabs, only because American law's are pretty tough on their lifestyle, a lot of Christian's despise them, the violence toward's them can be pretty bad and they're made fun off in just about every sort of media coverage in America (Gay's are only made fun off in bad sitcoms and on Youtube).

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I'm not saying that racism isn't prevalent. It is. It's still a huge boogey man that exists a lot more intensely in certain elements of the ountry.

But homophobia is more widespread and more intense.

Though onn the original point, Machina is wrong - to the casual observer, it's a lot more surprising that a black man became President.
