He went way off topic just like you always do. But I shouldn't have reacted like I did, but you guys are IMO getting pretty boring, like your post here.

And you misunderstood the meaning of what's not a big deal. Having a 1 year headstart by default creates an artificial attach ratio advantage. Normally attach rates go up in course of time when there are plenty of software releases. So you compare equal timeframes.

Actually, what he was doing was pointing out your OWN going offtopic in your very own thread.

Also, if that's the case that the attach ratio grows over time and favors the one with the most sales, why is the attach ratio for the 360 higher in Japan than PS3?  And worldwide by quite a bit?

@ Seece

What don't you understand?

The PS3 now sells more software per year than the XBox 360 has sold more software in total than the PS3 so far. The XBox 360 had a 1 year headstart for Japan and United States and missed the European holiday season for that period.

The PS3 sells more software at this point and taking equal timeframes, by determining the average amount of software bought per month of ownership.

Nothing was debunked, the figures back everything up.

You are comparing only one region and using only the first 3 months of data which for both 2009 and 2010 have seen many more PS3 exclusives released than 360 exclusives.  Really its the end of the year that all the 360 exclusives come out and the 360 dominates the software sales.

Basically, the PS3 attach rate has not gone up much at all over the years.  As of this same time last year, the 360 attach ratio was still ~8, so if the PS3 were selling more software via attach ratio, shouldn't the PS3 attach ratio be ~8 by now?  I mean isn't that what taking equal time frames mean?  Or do you only like to highlight the European region to try and make a very weak point anyway and ignore the worldwide picture?

This time last year (May 2, 2009):

1,013,548 (+2%) 229,737,403 7.78
767,366 (+3%) 132,638,283 6.29

Now (May 1, 2010):

1,884,964 (+22%) 238,330,990 6.89
1,539,634 (+13%) 348,036,724 8.77

So the 360 saw attach ratio growth of ~1.0 over the last year, while the PS3 only grew by .6.

Also, if the PS3 was having a better attach ratio given equal time frames, shouldn't the PS3 attach ratio be at least 7.78 by now?

In fact, the PS3 attach ratio is only barely above what the 360's was in 2008!  That's nearly 2 years behind in worldwide attach ratio and 1 year behind still even given equal time frames.

Well last fiscal year much more software was sold for the PS3 than XBox 360 software sold, this despite 4.47 million less units the PS3 sold to retail than the XBox 360 shipped.

Overall of course the XBox 360 attach ratio still goes up, as that's normal at this point. The PS2 has a much higher attach rate than the XBox 360, but that's actually slowly declining as relatively much hardware is still sold compared to software at this point.

PS3 vs 360 sales

stop using vgchartz software figures. Wii and PS3 are bastly undertracked.

@ nightsurge

The PS3 attach ratio is now 8.1.

290.5 million PS3 games sold.
Sony sold 35.7 million PS3s.

With the lastest Microsoft data, the XBox 360 attach ratio increased to 8.8.

This year if the PS3 sells as much software as it did this fiscal year, the PS3 overtakes the total amount of software sold for the XBox 360 by the end of March 2010. But likely more software will be sold. But most likely far more software will be sold as the PS3 install base is increasing and Gran Turismo 5 will be releasing.

@Red

With equal time frames, the Ps3 would have outsold the 360 hardware wise.

EDIT: BTW: My point is that it's not fair to compare things by equal time frames. There are alot of factors that affect the sales.. They could be better one year, and worse the next.

Installbase in Europe May 2009:

360: 8.9m
PS3: 7.9m

yeah....millions ahead....

Europe is pirate heaven, so I'm not surprised at all that the PS3 is selling more software in Europe.

My conclusion: This thread fails

I suppose your ready to post stats to prove this? Because I'm not seeing pirated 360 numbers vs units sold in retail, which would mean you're argument = fail.
