Forums - Gaming - NMH on HD consoles underperforms compared to the Wii version

TECHNICALLY the Wii version did outsell the PS3 and 360 versions (notice I'm not using "HD versions" so there won't be any whining), but the numbers are so close that it really doesn't matter.

I think this thread was to counter Mr Puggsly's thread about the HD versions having a "pretty good first week" (LOL!) and if you check out that thread, there's countless comments about how it did better on the HD versions.

So yea, there's my two cents :D

I think Mr. Puggsly learned a lesson here

Its a two year old port. Isnt the fact that the numbers are this close a slap in the face to the wii version?
The 360 and ps3 versions are competing with each other as like products, as well as the wii version (which is budget at this point).
In the end, the big idea is that the game did very poor across the board, so its like arguing which rat is more "drowned"

LoL. Funny, I thought maybe he'd be man enough to admit being wrong. After all, he accused me of being a fanboy..talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

But looking back at his thread, it is funny to see the backtracking take place..and sad at the same time.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

#1. It is releasing MUCH later.

#2. It sells for $10 more, so in the end it could very well be
performing better.

Actually, the PS3/360 versions sell for LESS than the Wii version! The MSRP of the Wii NMH is 7,140 yen and the MSRP of the PS3/360 NMH versions is 5,800 yen. (a savings of ~$15)

In relation to their install bases, the 360 performed the best as it has the smallest userbase of course. When NMH launched on the Wii it had a 4 million userbase. The PS3 currently has a +5 million userbase, so it is the PS3 version that has performed the worst of all 3. Discounting userbase, then the Wii version performed the best (IMO) as it launched at a higher price point than the HD versions, with a smaller userbase (compared to the PS3) and still sold more.

As for being censored the Wii JP NMH release was also censored (like the PS3 version) when it was released. The 360 version is the only uncensored version (though it's not completely uncensored).

RE4 Wii didn't do as well as the PS2 version, more evidence that being a late port hurts sales, besides the fact that RE4 Wii actually had a large number of changes that made it a fresh experience even for those who played it already.

I can't completely agree with this analysis, as it ignores the fact that RE4 Wii has sold on par with the original Gamecube version.

OUCH for me huh? I made the mistake of assuming it cost more due to being on an HD console.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

If you HD fans are REALLY truly going to cling on to your "it's an old port!!1" excuse for NMH failing on the HD consoles, why then did RE4 on Wii, a 2 year old port, perform so well compared to the PS2 and Cube versions?

Why did COD: Reflex, the inferior port of COD4 that came out 2 years later and had no advertising, manage to scrape 1 million sales? Ports mean little. If the game is good enough, people will wait to buy it.

Being a port shouldn't matter, because all those HD gamers out there who were just starved for another Suda 51 game could finally buy one on their beloved HD consoles, albeit 2 years later. But if they wanted the game enough, do you really think they would simply stop wanting the game and give up on buying it? If that is indeed the case, then they must not have wanted it that much in the first place.

If we all should have expected this game to do poorly since it was a port, why then did Ubisoft bother releasing this port for the HD consoles in the first place (especially when you consider the costs for developing on HD consoles compared to Wii)? Why then did so many HD fans claim before the port was released that "NOT we will finally see the game actually get some sales!"

I just love topics like this because it shows clearly how fanboyism is so pronounced that it gets in the way of LOGIC. Despite the Wii version performing BETTER than the individial HD versions, the HD versions are still somehow a success "well CONSIDERING... blah blah blah" while the Wii is still at fault for making poor Suda 51's game fail. Honestly people, take a step back and think about what you're trying to argue from the viewpoint of logic.

If you're going to claim the game to be a success, that's fine, but you must also include the Wii version because the sales #s are so similar. Similarly, if the game bombed on Wii, it also bombed on the HD versions. You guys are trying to have your cake and eat it too.

Ok.

HD fans?

rofl

Methinks someone doesn't know what he's talking about.

Great rebuttal.

Whatever, I'm done arguing about this because clearly people are going to believe what they want to believe and I'm obviously not going to change that so why waste any more time trying to. All I'm saying is I'm completely baffled that ANYONE with half a brain would try to spin NMH performace on the HD consoles are some kind of success when it clearly isn't, and just to take it one step further to absurdity some of those people actually beleive that the Wii version failed while somehow the HD versions were a success despite similar numbers for all 3 consoles.

Basically, either ALL 3 versions were a success, OR all 3 were a failure, but you cannot possibily sit there with a straight face and try to spin it to the Wii version failed while the HD versions did not. Case in point: the GAME is responsible for its own success (or lack thereof), NOT the Wii. That's all I'm trying to get across here.

They're identical,

They're not actually.  360 version is uncensored, while the PS3 version is censored (like the Wii original was in JP/EU).  There are also documented performance differences between the 360 and PS3 versions, and they have some differing assets.

Ah well, close enough. By 'identical', I meant the same game, not 1:1 carbon copies. The PAL version of Wii's NMH was also censored, the American version wasn't. But they're both still No More Heroes for Wii. You get the point.

Now, on a side note... does anyone know if the upcoming PAL version of NMH2 will also be censored, like the original was? Ages ago there were some statements made (I believe by the developer), saying the PAL version wouldn't be censored, or that there'd be 2 versions available at the very least (censored and uncensored). Anyone got any info on that?

actually it sold for over a thousand yen less at launch, and already facing deep discounts at atleast amazon.co.jp

http://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_ja_JP=%83J%83%5E%83J%83i&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=no+more+heroes&x=0&y=0

http://search.biccamera.com/pall/search/?s.q=no+more+heroes&s.ie=shift-jis&x=&y=&s.an=

so much for being more expensive than the wii original

ultimately the HD twins do not magically sell software, they have games with incredibly high sales because they have incredibly popular games on them or new ips with incredibly high production values mixed with strong marketing campaigns (barring an exception or two like demon's souls which did need the marketing campaign), and nothing can be done to make suda51's screwy games suddenly popular
