it seems the PS3 keeps peaking every year. |
The weird thing is...
If we don't see the $199 this year. And no new console releases next year, when we will likely see the $199 PS3... Next year could also be a bigger year. 16M? 17...?

If Move takes off then yes a further increase is possible but lets not get ahead of ourselves. The PS3 will get a price drop this year, probably down to $249, that will keep sales steady through the rest of the FY. 2011 will probably see a drop to $199 and that will come late in the year to retain the momentum from the last price drop.
The PS3 is on track to become the number 2 console this generation and sell for quite a while as long as the software support continues to flow but it all comes down to Japan and the Others market. America seems to have chosen the XBOX 360, I don't think the PS3 will be able to outsell the 360 there on a regular basis unless Move beats Natal quite handily in the US. I think what we'll begin to see is instead of the PS3 continuing to rise, the 360 and Wii will drop faster than the PS3 in Japan and Others which will cause the PS3 to catch up in the long term.
I'm not saying the 360 or Wii will have shorter lifespans than the PS3 but I think their sales (more so the 360) will drop more quickly in the next year or two compared to the PS3.

Yeaah i know. But it's exciting stuff! haha
I doubt the PS3 will ever be consistantly ahead of the 360 (by a decent amount of consoles) in NA while the 360 is still being supported. The best i see is matching the 360, or just slightly beating it weekly. "Others" and Japan are the key areas for PS3. It seems to have no trouble at all in Europe as a whole and with continued support/advertising it should maintain a healthy lead.
Japan, i could see the PS3 reaching as high as 10 Million if the great support it's getting continues. Could be THE key area for the PS3.
And i agree with your last paragraph fully
