My pet peeve with signatures and avatars/names

It is odd that a slight troll of something can get you a ban and yet someone with a trolling sig can do so in every thread they ever post with zero issues.

This..is true

Stop crying and shut off sigs.

I have NO issues whatsoever when visiting this site. I suggest you switch browsers.

Long Live SHIO!

No problems with sigs... just with the speed of browsing this site... should i use add-blockers?

I warn anyone I see with a sig to big. I don't check file size though, so reporting is helpful. Considering how infrequent people actually delete mod jobs (seems like I'm the only one sometimes) reporting has a very good chance of me seeing it. Again, I consider anything over 1MB too big, as by that point you took some stupid youtube clip and used a youtube-to-GIF creator website. Seriously, just link to youtube if you love it so much.

As for trolling in sigs/avatars/names I generally don't read sigs unless they are people I like (who generally don't troll anyways). Again, report them and I have no problem banning someone over a sig if they refuse to change it. Most people who contact me back would probably say I'm extremely helpful in trying to get them to within a reasonable size so I don't think I'm being unreasonable.

As for other mods not doing what they are supposed to, I can only say bring it up with naz.

None of the was directed at you for the record. It is nice to know there is a too big for sig size at least. Hopefully Final-fan et al can use that to help. I am sticking with sigs off so I can't help with that. The rest is probably stuff I should not have really brought up in this venue, so I will leave it alone.

I do like the official confirmation that sig trolling is against the rules. It confused and saddened me when I was told that there was nothing to be done against it. I'll keep it in mind for the few sigs I do end up seeing.

Let me start by saying I am fully aware that you can disable signatures now.  But I like to leave them on.  Many times they are interesting or simply funny.

But sometimes, some dumb jerk puts things in his signature that actually, objectively, measurably degrades my VGChartz experience.  For example, someone just made a thread with a Hitler video about Bungie and Activision.  I was genuinely interested in it, but I was completely unable to watch it because one or both of the two animated gifs (or whatever) in his sig made my CPU hit the roof and the slowdown crippled my browser.

I couldn't scroll up to hide them, because it was the OP.  I had to de-maximize the window, wait about two minutes for IE to respond, then scroll up, wait another minute for IE to respond, and then finally watch the video, which was at best half as enjoyable as it would have been if I'd been able to watch it without the hassle.

Why do people do this?  Do they somehow not encounter this slowdown?  Is my problem that unusual?  Or are they just stupid?  I mean, if it's their own signature I'd think it would hurt them more than anyone.

What is your pet peeve in people's signatures?

Well there's your problem.

get chrome!

IE9 preview runs this site better than Chrome by a mile.... I wish they would hurry up and get the ACID test right so they can release the damn thing...

Sorry

I had some trouble with Signatures loading too slow, and I really disliked all the Gifs in them. I also very much disliked dismissing what people said based upon their bias. So I turned signatures off, and I must say I like the site much better without them (hence my signature is indeed invisible text).

You should at least try to turn them off. Things'll go faster, and reading threads will be less like entering a warzone :D

As for signatures breaking the site like that... I'm not entirely sure that's their fault and not your computers. I'm just lucky I have none of that.

This is invisible text!

I dunno... I dont have a high-end PC and my net connection is far from stellar, but I never, ever had slowdown issues on VGC. And common, I live in the EUs poorest country Maybe because Im using MFF as a web browser?

The only thing that I dont like about sigs is that they might have some truly indecent content in them either in text or photo/gif form. Luckily the moding job is pretty good here, and these people are mostly newcommers, whom will change them fast
