I'm not touching Sony's PR with a ten foot pole. When they're not using the Playstation brand, they're talking about sold-to-retailers. Sometimes both. Thankfully TheSource has already posted a translation :)

I think the PS3 has beaten the XBox360 every week this month except for the first. European numbers seem to indicate it will happen again this week with the 178% spike in NA and atleast 40,000 sold in Japan

It's bogus to claim this at this stage anyway. It's called seasonality, so from the introduction of the new model, price cut and seasonality the sales are going up?


Well guess what, that is completely normal for a spike to occur during the Christmas season... if it didn't then you'd be getting worried... 300% isn't huge and it's completely normal.

I expect the Wii and probably the 360 will have seen bigger than 300% gains if you include Black Friday week sales... we can't analyse this using VG Chartz data yet, but according to VGChartz weekly expectations Wii has risen by 207% and PS3 has rise by 305% from early October numbers.

This sort of PR Spin is useless, talking about percentages are useless when you don't know the number they are coming from.

30,000 is 300% increase on 10,000 and that is not a very astonishing figure.

Weekly the PS3 was previously selling 30,000 so that increases them to 90,000 PW or there about's and Wii and Xbox 360 might hit up to 300,000 - 400,000 this week then it doesn't look so great any more.

God I hate Sony's PR they talk so much BS.

 Well if you think about it if PS3 increases by 75k and if the others increase by 75k then PS3's would be a larger percent now wouldn't it because it had less to start off with.  So if Wii doubled sales from last week, and 360 doubled from last week, then their increases would be larger than if PS3 had a 3x increase.  Just the arithmetic as well.  So I wouldn't expect percentage wise the Wii or 360 to be over the PS3, but they don't need to be to have more units pushed than from last week to beat its increase.  Trust me Wii and 360, especially Wii, had more increases than the PS3 last week.  Unless of course Wii had shipment issues.

Not to mention this PR wording in here is very tricky.

well ioi said that PS3 and DS had huge boosts and wii/360 not so much.

Its impossible to judge any "increase" in sales trends at the moment.

The telling figures will be sales in around 5-6 weeks, once the holidays are officially over. Then we'll see who has any sales strength left.

Amen. Folks are quick to say 'The PS3 is turning the corner ... finally' but a lot has to do with - lack of Wiis - the price cut - and Wal-Mart giving away 10 BR movies in store, plus the 5 free mail-ins. Are Sony fanboys so desperate that they are claiming victory and the PS3 is still 7 million units behind the 360?

For one, I have been in Wal-Marts within the past week and saw 4 PS3s, no Wiis, 2 360s and 1 Elite, and 1 Halo 3 360.

Give it time - and don't just jump on the bandwagon. If it's still selling this well in March, yeah, it's looking good, but if the 360 is selling, as well as the Wii, then what?
