Final Fantasy X

Planescape: Torment is the only real answer. No other game comes close to the masterpiece story, narrative and writing that Planescape: Torment has.

Frankly, I'm surprised that so many people think that the mediocre stories in Xenogears, FF7 and MGS2 are even comparable to the extremely divine story of Planescape: Torment. But then again, this a consoles website, and many of you probably never played Planescape: Torment.

Final Fantasy X.

Anyone that played it all the way through saw a more realistic dark story hidden in the background than just save the world from Sin. I wont spoil it incase anyone STILL has not played this gem, but a little hint to get you intreseted: religion. Oh, and the perfect twist at the end, not too dramatic and definatley was not predictable :)

Around the Network

Legacy of Kain series would have be my favorite.

PSN ID: KingFate_

Suikoden series would win....
If there is only one game , then i would pick Final Fantasy X.
Ending made me cry like a woman.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Oh, right.

I haven't played most of Schafer's best, but Psychonauts has a special (permanent) place in my heart. The man really does get game narratives.

Ah yes, Psychonauts! Still one of the great gaming narratives
