Any WWII game.
I was going to suggest killer7, but then I remembered that I don't bloody understand it.
Hotel Dusk it is!
WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3
hard to tell
videogames have so many different ways to tell a story
- pure linear game with a movie-like scenario... I love the MGS games but I think the story is much to cheesy and B-movie like (Kojima himself regrets all the cloning stuff). If I must pick a game with a story only given in cutscenes, I don't know what to chose. Maybe I'd take a game with great writing and voice acting such as Uncharted 2 or Batman AA, even though the story in itself has nothing special
- Shadow of the colossus : simple, pure and 100% associated with the gameplay
- if you consider the story as a plot you can discover step by step within a huge universe with a lot of characyers, I'd say Planescape Torment. It is awesome, very intelligent...
- if you're interested in interactive storytelling, a game like Deus Ex is gorgeous
- when it comes to the moral choices, maybe that the Witcher would have something to say
- if it's the exploration-driven story, I guess games like Half Life 2 or Bioshock are good examples
that's one of the thing I love with videogames, there are many different kind of possible ways to tell a story... Not only the cutscene stuff.

As you said, "define best". But a story being simple doesn't mean it can't be good, simplicity is often a good thing. |
I gave my definition (which is the definition that most pepole are going by, actually).
I never said that a simple story is bad, SotC has one of my favorite "stories" ever in a game, it is simple as hell yet thought provoking and extremely emotional.
Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
my favorite story was by far eternal darkness on the gamecube! pure madness!!!

Then your "three line summary"-complaint doesn't really carry much weight, does it?

Well, in other contexes? Maybe, but I talked about it in the context of what I started my post.
And, KotOR's story still is bad - boring characters, boring scenarios (most of the time there's literaly nothing that advances the plot), a bad guy who's bad because he's bad, it doesn't have the charm of a game li9ke chrono trigger, or the emotional impact of a game like SotC, and if it was in a universe other than the SW universe than pepole would've just ignored it and moved on (like most did with Jade Empire).

In my opinion, its between Final Fantasy X and Metal Gear Solid 4. Thos two games had some pretty good stories.
