Forums - Microsoft - Multiplatform engines didn't do the Xbox 360 justice.

then dont post threads about how a game like alan wake is graphics king , honestly do you not expect people to counter the whole opinion in general , doesnt matter if its rational or not people will disagree and there is no factual proof on anything that the op is stating

Um there is never any factual proof of what is better graphics. We only have developers words to say what it has. And a few sites that do tests for res and framerates. Thats not exactly proof. But there is nothing wrong with the article.

I have joined in in derailing this thread. And I'm sorry CGI-Quality.

Please evryone discuss about non multiplat engines finally with the light of day on the 360. :)

Again Sorry CGI.

Personally, I like to reserve judgment on how impressive a game is graphically after playing it for myself. Alan Wake isn't the only subject of the article. 360 titles being developed from the ground up and not using multiplatform engines like UE3 was a focus of the OP as well.  Whether AW is the graphics king remains to be seen, the writer of the article thinks so. I haven't played it so I can't be the judge. If the engine pulls off all of the features it claims it will be one of the most technically impressive games released so far.

......are you serious? 360 actually had it good with multiplat Just look @ the bad ports ps3 had compared to it's exclusives, I'd say its more like multiplatform engines didn't do ps3 justice IMO.

I think you miss the point of the article. Because the UE3 performs well on 360, it stopped developers building an engine from the ground up specifically to take advantage of the 360 hardware. Exclusive games like Splinter Cell, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, etc all used UE3. Instead of taking 360's full strengths. Alan Wake is the first adventure type title to utilize the hardware to it's advantages. Reach is another ( 720p, 4xMSAA, 60+ individual AI units etc ). It's taken 5 years to see what is truly inside the 360.

Well someone didn't read the thread topic. You may want to go back and read the OP. Be sure to pull your foot out of your mouth first

I read the OP:

1) He fails to mention that games like Halo 3, Fable II, Too Human, Banjo-Kazooie, Forza 3 or Dead Rising are not better than their multiplat counterparts (graphically speaking).

2) He talks about a game that is not out yet.

Was this really something people didn't know? An engine designed specifically for a particular system will do better than an engine designed to broadly work on multiple systems?

they didnt write new engines because no 3rd party is going to waste that time when they have perfectly function gorgeous graphics to work with , what the thread should be about is ...

microsoft needs to buy up some pro first party studios or else it will be the middle ware platform for the rest of the gen.

you fanboys should be thanking sony for pushing the bar up so high on consoles , eitherway by the end of the gen the ps3 will have the best looking games out of both platforms. dont get mad just accept it just like pc beats the crap out of both .

fact is ps3 puts out quite a few more flops over 360 do the research yourself plus it has bluray space (almost 7 times that of a 360 dvd). you can hype up all the graphics you want , just remember that bar will never stay at one place and the ps3 has the ability to make it much higher each time.

just think what uncharted 3 is going to look like or killzone 3 or the last guardian or any other first party sony title , that bar will keep getting broken no matter what , alan wake looks good but i cant for the life of me see what you guys are talking about , maybe im just not that impressed by water effects anymore i dunno

It's good to see a new engine being developed for the 360. Alan Wake looks awesome and could end up surpassing Dead Space as the best survival horror game this generation. Lighting and shadows are an important part of the genre and Remedy seems to have nailed it.

When the 360 launched, the main draw for the 3rd parties developing games was the middleware and the Unreal Engine being so accesible on the system. Unfortunately it limited how far developers pushed the system. Hopefully Alan Wake will open their eyes and we will see better things to come.

@Selnor

Nice attempt but it's a battle that's impossible to win.

lol alan wake doesnt even look that good , what a joke thread.

the first uncharted still looks better and there still isnt anything on the 360 that even comes close to killzone 2 or mgs4 , the sad part about this is that 360 fanboys actually think alan wake is raising the visual bar , reality is we all see the in game graphics , the lighting is nice everything else is very standard nothing blew me away at all .

I noticed you put that you own a 360. I highly doubt you do and if you do why do you try your hardest to bash it? Alan Wake does look that good and it does compare you the best of the PS3. If it didn't then we wouldn't even be having this discussion would we?

i do have a 360 flowjo69 gamertag lol,  but im not at all biased about it , i know that the ps3 is an overall more powerful rendering machine plus it has bluray which makes for much larger games , see i know alan wake looks good but i also know that it doesnt look better than even the first uncharted which was in 2007 and uncharted 2 looks leagues better than the first so im trying my hardest not to post about these blatant biased views but its really hard when i know its not the truth .

So your so confident you'll bet control over your sig for a year that Alan Wake gets critical acclaim from more than 10 reviewers it is best graphics this gen?

look i'm not here to bash or anythign but he makes a point, the PS3 does have more power then the 360, does it seem logical that Alan wake will have better visuals then GOW3? if it came in 2012 it would probably have, but let's face it, it wont. good graphics the best on the 360 probably. GOW3 had a bigger budget, a bigger staff, and they worked on it longer then Alan Wake. Yes you can take in the quality of the work. Seriously a Santa Monica Studiois vs Remedy. we all know what the answer is. let's not get over ourselves. Saying Gears of War 3 will have better graphics then UC2, and KZ2, is logical and it will probably happen. But Alan Wake no offense but it's usually the "big" and hyped games which break records visually.

LOL

Remedy showed off the first trailer for Alan Wake and some tech demos before God of War 2 was even released.
