Forums - Nintendo - The price of Nintendo Wii tumbles in the UK

The question is why WHSmith was selling video games in the first place.

If you remove its closeout price from the equation, the average increased by roughly 1-1/2 pounds to £157.04 (UKP).

While less than the base price, it is much less than the US Price ($241 vs. $199).
It does though mean that the actual price in the UK is less than the given price in that country and in the rest of Europe (179euro vs. 199euro).
(The base price in the UK was slightly higher than the European base price (204euro vs. 199euro) -- probably the result of currency fluctuations.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

This doesn't make sense... 155.56 pounds is about 240 US dollars. So its STILL $40 higher than what we pay for the Wii in the US. Theoretically, it can drop more to meet the equivalent of the American price.

True ...

GO PATS! 2012 THE YEAR OF NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS'S 4TH SUPER BOWL!

A patriot to the end. GO PATS!

Now playing> THE LAST STORY (Wii) Best RPG I EVER PLAYED. *-*

Nintendo could u please just take my money and give me back my 3DS?!

I live in the UK and can't figure out what some of those shops are doing selling games, seriously Sainsbury's? WH Smith? Morrisons? People pop into these stores to buy groceries and books not games.

oh that is crazy low prices, then again it's not like Nintendo cannot afford it:):) we shall see if it happens, but I don't think they will worry about it, wii is still selling like mad, no more price cut's are needed surely??

Nintendo didn't cut the price, though, so it should be the retailers in this case.

But yeah, as others have said, the Wii's price is still lower in the US. Also, I don't think Nintendo has much to worry about the UK, although NSMB Wii didn't do as well there as other countries, Just Dance seemed to replace it just fine (and then some).

No. It is including taxes, unlike the US price. Removing taxes it works out to $203-$208 (I forget the exact VAT in the UK).

So basically it's the same price as the US.

I was just going to post that. xD

For reference, if the Wii costs 200 € right now, that works out to $225 before tax.

The prices are not very different between all the countries right now. Of course that changes all the time, with the currencies floating.

More than that, The price of games if far lower than in europe. I live in the UK for a few months now, before that, I was in France. I've bought Red Steel 2 two weeks ago at release, at a RRP of £37 (42 €), while it's 60€ in France.

Conclusion : Never buy again games in France.

UK retailers compete more in pricing that retailers from most EU countries, according to what I've seen.

That's why I buy most of my games from the UK (either Amazon or other stores, though Amazon is the one I trust the most). Even with added shipping costs, it's almost always cheaper, and often much cheaper.

Especially now with the £ quite low.

Hi! I've bought about half of my games from supermarkets. Bye.
