Forums - Nintendo - The Last Story - Art detailing battle system

My speculation is it's a real time chrono trigger type system, I don't think it's merely line of sight either I think it's just a way of getting across the tactical element. The enemies see both you then the mage but they focus on the mage, you then step out and use an ability that means they have to deal with you before they can get to the mage similar to the Sentinel class in FFXIII. According to the director they've focused the tactical elements similar to how sport teams would operate in which everyone has their own role and has to move accordingly to take control of a situation and take the other team down.

An example of this would mean that physical fighters will no doubt have to hold position or take the fight to the enemy to keep the fight away from magic users providing support while other classes do their bit as well.

Good eye with the combo attacks! Anything in this art style is going to look like infinite fun, but I have faith they've got some good things cookin with this game.

This was, of course, so much less effort than just showing us a gameplay video :P

Pretty cool way to tease your game, though. I hope you get more than a two person party!

- "Making order from chaos. Or, pulling the enemies who were in order into chaos. Using one of the main character's skills called 'Gathering,' we wanted to make a system that would let you control that type of situation."
- the focus of the enemy during battle is marked with a line, called the 'pointer'
- "This is probably the most special feature when you see this game."
- the pointer's color will indicate enemy type,
- the archer will attempt to disrupt your own mage's magic chants
- use the 'gather' skill to steal the focus of the enemy
- when gather is used, the enemy will turn his focus on you
- for example, if your mage is being attacked, you can use gather to have the enemies focus on you, and then your mage can continue their chant
- "Controlling chaos and order on the battle field ties in to victory."
- strategy and signals during battle are the key to success
- "Combat in games is the same. Ordered movements of your allies is the key to victory. But what if there were an opponent who could bring confusion to that order?"

WOW sounds amazing

Looks like lots of strategy will need to be used, sounds fun

The using gather thing reminds me of using a sentinel in FF13.

I wonder if we can switch characters on the fly.

GAMEPLAY at E3 PLEASE!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I think I know less about the game play than I did before I knew anything. I will have to see it in action to really grasp what it is suppose to be like. Ethier way probably a must buy. Correction at this time it is a must buy still.

am I just crazy or this seems awful lot like Army of Two?

Oh hell yes!  (second time I've said this tonight).

Triple techs anyone?
